    First Impressions...

I just hooked up this HD and it works fine - can't vouch for it's long term abilities but I can say this...

Hardware designers need to take cues from Apple concerning their products. When you buy a PC the first thing you notice is all the annoying blinking lights (bling bling?). Apple has removed all the blinking lights from their products; and for good reason.

This HD has a gigantic, bright white light that blinks on and off like lights on a slot machine when there is activity. Pretty annoying when you are sitting in a dark room trying to watch a movie. First thing I did was tape a piece of paper over it. So much for it looking pretty on my desk.

I previously had a Porsche designed Lacie that had an activity light which was a small dim amber light that flickered slightly to show activity. Nice solution.

So, designers at Iomega: take some pointers from Porsche designers and Apple. Or maybe next time, hire me!

Other than that, no complaints yet.

    2 Good

I have 2 500G on 2 separate mini's running Retrospect backing up 2 different servers. They have performed flawlessly for almost 2 years. Space was a major concern as both are tucked away in closets as far as possible from the servers they backup. Since they have no monitors, keyboards, mice, or any peripherals attached (I control them with Remote Desktop), the space savings is great.

If I were using them with a desktop mini, the extra USB & FW ports would certainly have come in handy.

    I am very satisfied.

I have had two 500gb MiniMax Hard Drives. They were to back up my IMac utilizing Time Machine. The first died after about 7 months. The second was sent as a replacement under the 1 year warranty. It lasted 7 months. More

Reliable product over last 2 years

Have had the 320 GB variant of this external drive since March 2007. Stacked with Mac mini. Connected via firewire. Regularly share the drive with another Mac mini on my home network.... this drive gets heavily used. Have had no problems whatsoever with the drive. As the drive is getting close to full I am now upgrading to a 1TB drive... hope I continue to get flawless performance. More

    Firewire not working

    Written by GG from Castelldefels

1 month after purchasing the 320Gb, I started with problems, as the MacMini stopped seeing the external HD...it was completely random.

Bought a new firewire cable, but...no change

Then connected with the USB and no problems since then

Pity though, as I cannot use de FireWire connection
