Crucial 8GB Gizmo! USB Flash Drive
Seamless Mac Compatibility!
Written by JK from Scarborough

This is a great thumb drive that offers excellent speed especially when working within the Mac OS X environment.
I experimented with other flash drives in the past and none performed nearly as well as this one does on my PowerMac and my MacBook.
The user who wrote the first review must've had his drive plugged into a USB 1.0 port which is why he experienced such a slow transfer rate. This drive can copy 1GB of data in 2 minutes flat when plugged into a USB 2.0 port (I just checked). …More123 of 127 people found this useful

Is there password protection/encryption offered in this 8 gb Crucial thumbdrive?? 2nd, is it pre-loaded with a bunch of autoload proprietary software

From the description this appears to be a simple USB drive without any software or hardware enabled encryption. However you can copy encrypted DMG images onto any USB drive for security if you wish. Just use Disk Utility to create your disk image on the drive or on the Mac and once closed, copy it to the drive.
Also, you can use Disk Utility to reformat and optionally partition any (almost any) USB drive to get rid of pre-installed software (usually Windows stuff.) Be aware of the Partition Map Scheme and Format if you want to transfer files to Windows computers. Most generic USB drives are MBR/FAT and work with both Macs and PCs, but drives custom tuned for Macs might be APM/HFS+. …More- Answered by AG from San Pedro
