    Almost the best sound.

These are the best sounding in-ear headphones available, except the Ultimate Ears custom line, which start at 800 bucks plus a trip to the audiologist for a fitting.

I tried Ultimate Ears triple fi, Shure SE420 and a few cheaper ones from Bose and Sennheiser, but these were far and away better - extreme clarity and nice, full bass.

I got mine for 300 bucks on ebay, but if that isn't possible for you, you can find them online for less than 400, and it's worth every penny if you care what your music sounds like when you're in noisier environments.

    The Rolls Royce of IEMs

You get what you pay for, although I think it's a mistake to use these with iPod or any compressed digital music player.
At the very least, one needs to import losslessly for these to work correctly.
Huge improvement on the e4 series, though, and I'd recommend these for any serious music enthusiast. If you understand the way in which these are meant to be used, you're golden.

    Stupendous

Simply put, the best headphones I have ever heard in my life. Sometimes, I can't wait to test music out on these 'phones as they can "reveal" the true quality of music. I have come home many times from running or cycling and left the headphones in because the same music wouldn't sound as good if I put it on my 5.1, so why interrupt? They're as loud as you could ask for, and even listening to some Don & Mike today recorded in 24kbps sounded totally acceptable when I expected only garbage. Mostly I listen to techno/house, but have heard classical and many other categories on these. This is one way to listen to music the way it was meant to be heard and I'm happy to have at least one of those ways. More

    Audiophile's dream Earphone

    Written by EA from Bridgeport

This is by far the best earphones I've ever purchased. But be forewarned this is not something that you would use on iPod/iPhone because you will loose the quality of the sounds. Somehow when I connect this in my Pioneer receiver the sounds seems like night and day compare to personal mp3 players. The sound is like a live performance when I close my eyes. If you just want to listen to your music and have no reason to hear the instrument and vocal separation then this is not for you. More

    Great Audiophile grade sound

    Written by MC from Kelkheim

These are definitely the best in-ear headphones short of custom made ones that one can buy. Look at the price, they are audiophile headphones, if you are planning on using these primarily with a mobile player like the iPod (without the use of a line-out-dock and an amp) don't waste your money, just about any mobile mp3 player on the market isn't going to be able to sound amazing no matter what headphones you use, just go with something a bit cheaper and your music will still sound very good. If you are planning on using these with more professional audio equipment the you probably know that these have the reputation of being the best quality you can get out of in-ear headphones short of custom fits, and they live up to it. The bass response is crisp (though not nearly as loud as other headphones and might require the use of an equalizer if you really like a lound bass).

In short if you are an audiophile and demand the best possible sound quality and don't want to have a pair of custom fit headphones made, these are amazing, if you are not an audiophile save yourself the money and get something else.

The only complaint I have is the awkward length of the cable, the longer extender cable is normally too long, where as the shorter extender is almost always much too short to be of any use. Though the longer one normally can be simply folded and put in a pocket or on a desk without too much trouble.

Very Nice Sound Quality; Very Bad Cord Problem

    Written by JM from Clearwater

    Aug 6, 2009

These are the best headphones I've tried to date by far. Sound quality is a full step above everything else. I hear musical details that I don't hear with other headphones including Apple Earbuds, B&O, Dr. Dre, etc.

Unfortunately there is also a big problem with these earphones. As others have mentioned the cord-length is a problem -- and it is a real problem. I use my ipod for working out and jogging. I am constantly fidgeting with the cord, tucking in the extra yards of cord. It just doesn't make any sense why the cord is this long. The short cord provided is too short. For this reason alone I would not recommend these earphones.

The other problem is the weight issue when one of the connectors is used -- and you almost have to use them because the standard cord is way too short. I also use the remote adapter which allows the user to pause, ff and rev songs. The button on the Apple earbuds is much smaller and lighter and works well. The button on the Shure's is bulky and very heavy. This extra weight continually pulls the earbuds out of my ears. It's very annoying.
