hf2 > Vmoda
Written by RP from Birmingham
Apr 22, 2008
I was a Vmoda user, and after four trade-ins because of poor workmanship, I opted for the Etymotic hf2's. I had used the er-6i headphones before, so I knew what I was expecting. The sound was flat compared to the Vmoda's bleeding base, a change that may take some getting used to. But I have to say that the clarity is what sold this pair for me. Etymotic tries to make their headphones sound as close to live music as they can, and that's how these headphones strike me after a few weeks of use.
The clicker is a little large, but I appreciate the call quality (slightly better than Vmoda), and the clicker seems a lot less cheap than the Vmoda's. I was a little reserved about spending this much on headphones, and after a buy of passion, I'm very happy with my purchase.
Go with your gut if you've been reading about these, it's an amazing experience. …More143 of 159 people found this useful

Third time s a Charm
Written by RM from Frederick

the original ear bugs hurt my ears after a short while but what a great switch.
Vmoda lot of bass sound but little bass definition, the switch was crummy from the start and then they started to fall apart. Fortunately they fell apart just as the HF2 came on the market.
HF2 - not as much bass as the Vmoda but I hear the different notes better, no more thump thump thump. The isolation / noise suppression is great and I don't get quite as much of the hearing myself talk as I did with the Vmoda when on the phone. Finally the switch works nicely.
They are, as the name implies, High Fidelity Earphones. They are the best of all I have tried over the years.

Etymotic hf2 Headset + Earphones
Finally - high quality earphones for people with small ears!
Written by HM from New York

These earphones are by far the best I have tried after years of looking for the right product for small ears. The smaller, blue ear tips that come with the Hf2 fit great, and are very comfortable. Of course, these also have amazing sound quality and fabulous sound isolation. The sounds of my NYC commute are filtered out, allowing me to listen to music and podcasts at less than top volume. I'm picky (maybe too picky) about headphones, and have never found in-ears that are comfortable before these. A fabulous product and worth the price. …More

Etymotic hf2 Headset + Earphones
A real hi-fi component
Written by DS from Virginia Beach

Like several of the below reviewers, I tend to try multiple earphones because I just can't get satisfied. I just bought the HF5's, which are these minus the microphone and iPhone switch. It does take some getting used to and trying different ear plugs to get the correct setting for your individual ear canal configuration. If you've never worn in-ear sound plugs there's an adjustment. As I have, it was less of a problem. These things, properly installed in your head, cut out almost all external sound, allowing the music to completely rule between your ears. Bass is firm and solid without exaggeration, so if you're used to heavy bass emphasis (such as you get with a misadjusted subwoofer), you may find it a little shy. Mids are liquid and highs are open, if not as airy as the very, very best (sets costing more than your iPod). Very real, lifelike sound. A strong recommendation in this price range (I got my HF5's for $100 on Amazon). …More

You get what you pay for!
Written by LT from West Palm Beach

I will agree, these HF2 earplugs are not cheap, however, neither is their quality! Like most, it took a bit of getting used to the fit of the 3-tier earplugs, however, once you get comfortable with them, "man" what a sound; even for someone like me who is addicted to the 'hi-volume' music, I gotta admit, the sounds are crystal clear and the base (although not 'pounding') is crisp and clear too. So for anyone 'on the fence' about these earphones, don't be, they are worth the price if you're a true music lover! After all, it's true that you get what you pay for, at least in this case. Enjoy! …More

Can anyone confirm if the control button on the HF2 also works with the 3GS voice control feature (via holding down the button)?

The write up is vague as to what functions the mic button has. Do you get the same level of control as the standard? ie rewind fastforward and volume
