While the Macintosh is privileged compared to Windows in terms of viruses, there is still the danger of existing viruses or new viruses spreading to your Mac and damaging your files.
Intego VirusBarrier X5 offers thorough protection against viruses and malware of all types, coming from infected files or applications, whether on CD-ROMs, DVDs or other removable media, or in files downloaded over the Internet or other types of networks.
VirusBarrier constantly examines all the files that your computer reads and writes, as well as watches for suspicious activity that may be the sign of viruses acting on applications or other files. With VirusBarrier X5 on your computer, you can rest assured that your Macintosh has the best protection available against viruses of all kinds.
It also works in the background and checks everything that your Mac does, looking for viruses. It knows the unique signatures of all known Macintosh viruses, and whenever a new virus is discovered, Intego's Virus Monitoring Center goes into action to provide updated virus definitions, which you can download using Intego NetUpdate.
When you purchase VirusBarrier X5, you have access to virus definition updates for one year from the date of installation. After that you can purchase additional subscriptions to extend your access to virus definition updates

Great Mac AntiVirus

Easy to use, easy to install, easy to understand
It runs invisibly in the background as soon as I startup so I don't have to do anything.
Updating is easy too!
They are a Mac only company so I know they are dedicated to the platform and that makes me feel pretty confident about the product as well.
I highly recommend this antivirus !!! …More488 of 524 people found this useful

Fast and Easy

This is how a Macintosh security product should work. Obviously, the developers at Intego have their stuff together. I have tried competing products in the past - including Symantec, McAfee and Virex. All were more painful than the bad stuff they were trying to protect from.
The initial HD scan takes awhile, but, it doesn't tie up the ability to do other work. Love the interface. …More229 of 243 people found this useful

Installed this product, and it seemed to work in the scan. However, It slowed my machine down so slow, it became pretty useless (Almost like a Windows Machine). I had to turn off the Active Scan to get my computer back. I guess I will have to live with occasional manual scans. …More

Intego does work

I had a drive-by Unix Arc-Bomb Trojan through an I-Frame injection happen to me on a nationally known router/UTM site. I normally have my NoScript engaged not to let Java/Flash run, but that time I was going to download something and had Java and Flash running for that site This was no false positive, after talking to their webmaster they shut the site down for 2.5 days. Their site was infected. I would of never known what hit me if I did not have an anti-virus/malware program. This was 1.5 years ago. It is 100 times worse now with PDF/Java infections attacking the browser. You HAVE to be protected, even with a Mac. I am not worried about a virus, I am more worried about malware on OS X.
I just don't get the disappointed people. I have been running their products on 6 Macs and have never had issues with any of them. Sure your computer will slow down a bit if you are in a full active scan, as for automatic background downloading and email scans I notice no slow downs.
I buy the 2 year plan on virus definitions, so I only pay $44.90 for 2 years of definitions. $23 a year, That's fair …More31 of 33 people found this useful

THANKS, INTEGO

I am surprised that some people are having a hard time with this software, as I have been running it for a few months with no problems at all. It is mostly invisible, running scans when I connect another volume or boot my mac in the morning.
Other Virus protection software I have used has been so bad I abandoned using it, but this one behaves very well and does exactly what it's told. If it starts a scheduled scan and I want to use all the CPU power for another task, I simply close the progress bar window and I get no argument. Other software I have used will not allow me to interrupt or postpone a scan, it will lock up my machine instead, not this one, it does what I say!
I am running it on a mid 07 2.4 MacBook Pro, which has heaps of grunt, so maybe the moaners are using older, less capable hardware.
To the uninformed, be informed, welcome to the real world where millions of Mac-Haters can't wait to shoot the Mac OS down in flames. A recent scan of a friends disabled computer revealed 12 malicious items with root access including, 'OSX/RSPlug.B10!s1', 'OSX/RSPlug.A9!s1', 'OSX/RSPlug.gen7!s1', W32/FraudLoad.vaoa, et-cetera.
I COULD HARDLY BE HAPPIER WITH THIS PRODUCT, THANKS, INTEGO. …More26 of 29 people found this useful
