    works just as advertized

    Written by NB from London

I'm not sure about the previous review, but this unit has been working perfectly for me and I've had it for over 1.5months with no issues.

For the price, this is one of the best audio interfaces out there. If you use it on a macbook, then the USB2 port is fully supported: FASTER than the firewire port! Meaning lower latency and better performance. At the moment I am running a midi-controller, two studio monitors, a mic, and my monitoring headphones through this unit.

I installed the most recent drivers (it works the same as before), just in case this is an issue somehow. Check the maudio support section of their website.
->I am running Mac OSX 10.5.4

On the Fast Track to Ultra Frustration

    Written by MC from RESTON

    Jun 30, 2008

Avoid this unit. Too many issues about drivers and fragility, especially with Max OSX Leopard.

I purchased one two days ago, and it worked great for about one day in my home recording setup. Enough to be really frustrated when it stopped being recognized by my laptop. The way it is designed, if the laptop does not recognize it, it does nothing at all. You can't even use it as a simple mixer. The mic inputs all go dead. It becomes one useless brick. This is where I am right now.

I am sending lots of emails and bug reports in to their support sight, but frankly, I have no confidence that they can make this thing work. It is a product that was rushed into production and shipped before they got the bugs out. They seem to expect their customer base to do their testing for them. I fully expect to have to take it back and exchange it for something with a real track record.

My recommendation: avoid the M-Audio Fast Track Ultra and similar products until you see independent evidence that they work.

When I google M-Audio Fast Track Ultra, I find lots of complaints and absolutely no reports from anyone who says it works well for them -- zero, nada.

    That should tell you something.

This review will become just one more of the many negative reports out there in cyberspace. It is a shame, because if this product delivered on what it claims to do it would be one great piece of gear.

As they say in Texas, "Big hat, but no cattle".

    Works Perfectly

    Written by CG from Gatineau

Worked perfectly out of the box with Garageband and Logic. I use it as my sound device for input and output on a mac mini. Drivers from M-Audio not required. To enable control over the bit rate for recording, you can install the latest drivers. I doesn't stay put for long with all of the wires plugged-in, as it is light and made of plastic. More

    I've had some problems..

Written by HC from EL DORADO

but nothing too bad.. when i bought my new mbp last month, it wasn't recognizing the fast track. i had to unplug reinstall and restart everything about 10 times before it started picking up the guitar. other then that, almost two years of no complaints here. it's simple and small. perfect for laptops and garageband. i just hope it keeps preforming well. i went through three mixers before i got to this one, and this one's lasted me the longest. i paid probably a hundred dollars more then the average mixer, but it's definitely worth it. this one will probably be in my collection for awhile.
