LaCie 250GB Rugged All-Terrain Hard Drive w/ Triple Interface (5400 RPM)
FAST Data transfer, VERY small, GREAT VALUE
Written by DL from Valley City
Feb 20, 2008
I have used this drive for about 1 month and am VERY pleased with the performance. FW800 screams for data transfers and the size is unbelievably small and light weight. I plan to purchase additional drives for storage & data transfer. Haven't dropped it, so don't know anything about its ability to withstand shock. The USB should have been left off because you need the additional power adapter for USB connection whereas the FW400/FW800 don't. …More

Rugged and reliable

This little drive is the Quietest and most vibration free portable drive I've ever used.
It is nearly server grade in its quality, and the ruggedized construction makes it perfect for the traveler who, like myself, may be somewhat clumsy at times. Quiet, fast, and skid resistant. A good choice ! …More186 of 212 people found this useful

LaCie 250GB Rugged All-Terrain Hard Drive w/ Triple Interface (5400 RPM)
Solid but not refined. Firewire 800 recognized under bootcamp
Written by KK from Bellevue

I switched to this drive after using a Smartdisk Firelite drive for 2 years. The Smartdisk is smaller then the Lacie so I'm not excited about that. The Lacie backup software is limited to directory paths less then 260 characters to beware if you have your music organized under folders.
My media collection is growing and I welcomed the extra speed to a portable disk. The drive was recognized under both XP/10.5 (using bootcamp) using the 800 port which is fantastic. The drive does get powered over the Firewire 800 port successfully so that is a big plus. I'm willing to put up with the larger physical size in order to get larger storage space and a faster connection. …More167 of 206 people found this useful

LaCie 250GB Rugged All-Terrain Hard Drive w/ Triple Interface (5400 RPM)
Great Product, even after 2 years!

I got it as a high school graduation gift 2 years ago and It's still going strong. I've dropped it a few times and it's been shoved into my bags when I travel and has never failed on me. The backups are quick and I've never noticed any vibrations or noises from it. I have it continuously plugged into my laptop and haven't had one problem with it.
My only qualm is the power cords. I have a MacBook Pro that doesn't have any firewire ports so I have to use a USB and the included power cord. …More6 of 6 people found this useful

Is this drive compatible with Snow Leopard? Two drives so far have failed during their install program. Should I ask for a replacement or bail?

Yes it is. I have a 500 and 250 version of this drive and both work flawlessly with SL. personally I never load the software that comes with the drive, I don't want it taking up space. I just use disk utility to format it OSX journaled extended or if I want to use the drive with PCs (it might happen) I format it FAT32 and that way it will work on MAC and PC. You shouldn't need to load any software onto the drive anyway, it'll work straight out of the box.... From what your saying I'm not convinced that the drives are at a fault.... …More
