Canon CanoScan 8800F Scanner
Fast, Excellent Quality, download current software
Written by DM from Morro Bay

Great Value. Before scanning go to the Canon website and download the current driver and software. And then it flies! I set it up for one touch on the scanner. You can customize the settings. The appearance of the unit is a great improvement over the usual computer stuff, which is nice because this sits on the desk; I think it matches my new iMac nicely. This scanner offers excellent value for the money. …More

THIS IS WHAT I'VE DREAMED SCANNING COULD BE!
Written by PW from Edmond
Apr 14, 2008
For years I've lumbered along with either the HP all in one and then an Epson Perfection Series scanner...but today I received my Canon CanoScan 8800F and it's liking going from driving a Ford to a BMW. It's sleek, fast, quiet, smooth, infinitely easy to use with Leopard. I am so darn happy with this scanner, I might have to do a happy dance around the scanner. I've been able to clear out paperwork I've been holding since my Epson died, in about an hour. Before with the Epson, it might've taken 3. I cant recommend this machine more highly! KUDOS TO CANON AND THE CANOSCAN 8800F! …More

Canon CanoScan 8800F Scanner
Excellent and very productive machine
Written by MG from Long Beach
Jul 19, 2008
This is the best scanner I ever bought. I was originally going to buy another Microtek scanner. (I had 2 of them previously) Instead, I research and thought I give this product a try. It scan flawlessly and about 5 times faster than my last Microtek scanner. Also, it scans easily, clearly, and beautifully for negatives, slides, photos and transparency. The program with the film guide makes it easier for you to scan negative films. It came out very clear and crisp. And as a teacher, I use this scanner to make PDF files, and this scanner makes it easy as well. I highly recommended it. You will not be disappointed. …More

Canon CanoScan 8800F Scanner
Good gear, horrible software
Written by ML from Portneuf
Oct 24, 2009
The scanner itself is good. It is quick to start and the output files are fine. However the software is horrible, I have never seen junk like this. Arcsoft Photostudio is a shame, be it under Xindows Xp or Mac OS X. It will randomly crash, will forget your preferences. IF you scan too many slides are one time, it will freeze when it is done (i.e after 30-40 minutes of scanning). You then have to force it to quit.
After having installed Snow Leopard, the software simply does not work anymore. We're almost in November and there is still no fix for this. So, I have to scan my slides on Windows Xp, which runs in a virtual machine on my Mac. …More8 of 8 people found this useful

Does the Canon 8800F Scanner not work with Snow Leopard?

Canon CanoScan 8800F Scanner
Great Device - best results with SilverFast scanning software
Written by MF from New York
Dec 12, 2008
The Canon CanoScan 8800F - a great device for a small price.
Since the other reviewers wrote comments on the hardware, I think I should say a word to the software.
The CanoScan software is easy to use and comes up with quite good scans - for the beginning.
If you get more ambitious, you'll need a more sophisticated scanning software.
I got a copy of SilverFast and will never switch back to the CanoScan software.
There are so many different features, especially the Multi-Exposure feature for increasing the dynamic range, to improve the quality of your scans.
For true color images a IT8 Calibration and ICC-Profiling is necessary. This can be done easily with the SilverFast IT8 version.
SilverFast got awarded as the 'best color management software 2008' by the EDP. And this for good reason !
I recommend downloading a free demo version to everyone, who isn't using SilverFast yet. Give it a try. …More126 of 138 people found this useful
