    No power support

I have just got new Macbook Pro 17". LIke other people, I got pretty excited about new laptop, but I found a couple of issues. One, it doesn't come with apple remote or display adaptor and you need to purchase separately.
Another one is that new laptop does not have firewire 400 port, but it has firewire 800 port instead. Since I have external hard drive with firewire 400 port, I purchase this cable and tired. Immediately I noticed that the external hard drive (self powered) has no power. This cable get you decent speed of file transfer but power from computer is not transferable. In description, there is no explanation about this. I don't know it is the limitation of this cable or nature of converting device. But be aware you can not use this cable if you have any device which needs power from computer.

Was a bit worried because previous poster stated this cable didn't provide power to his hard drive. I'm satisfied that he must have had some other issue, as I can verify that my 2009 MacBookPro connected via this cable to my Iomega 320 bus powered drive works like a charm! I am also very pleased that it is one of the few quality firewire cables that I've purchased that also is white and the connector fairly well matches Apples USB ipod/iphone connectors. It isn't tremendously more expensive than most 9 to 6 pin cables on the market either. More

I use an Apogee duet with the new Mac Pro. This cable works very well. The Apogee Duet requires power from the Mac Pro and this cable does quite well, contrary to the first review. Don't waste time (and money) with adapters, they cause a lot of static. 4 stars to the Apple salesman who didn't tell me I needed this after I described my setup! More

Allows me to hook my old firewire 400 scanner to my new MacBook Pro. Works great. To the reviewer that lamented that it doesn't transfer power, if a device needs to be powered that's up the the device maker to provide, this cable transfers data only. More

I was worried to purchase this, because of the bad feedback the Belkin firewire 800/400 cable has received in previous posts. I am very glad I bought it anyway, since I am extremely satisfied how fast my FireLite drive works with this cable! I can honestly recommend it. More

    Exactly what I needed

This was exactly what I needed to connect my pile of firewire and firewire/usb hard drives to my new 13" MacBook Pro. I wish I had known I needed this before having to use Migration Assistant as well as move a bunch of files. Mind you, all my FW drives are separately powered. More
