Reunion 9
Very easy to use, intuitive, but powerful program!

I bought this for my parents, but ended up using it myself. This program is VERY easy to use, but incredibly powerful and versatile. I HIGHLY recommend the program for anyone who wants to make a family tree. You can be as simple (just put in names) or complex (annotate entries with source notes, add custom entries, multiple spouses, multiple parents (for adopted children), etc) as you want. Great charts and graphs as well. And a really easy to use website...just say "create" and it's done. All you have to do is upload it to .Mac (or anywhere else), and tell .Mac what the main page is, and it takes care of itself. You can download a fully functioning (but limited to 50 people) demo from their website at leisterpro dot com. Beware...it's VERY addicting! …More

Great app that is very intuitive to use and has lots of handy, powerful features. Many times better than MacFamily Tree, which I'd rate nearly useless. Reunion 9 is well worth the price. …More

Great Software
Written by MD from tucson

This software is easy to use and has a great GUI. Basically, you are able to put in as much information as you have or as little as you have and build out your tree. It shows how everyone is connected by a simple interface and if you make a mistake, it is easy to change it. I highly recommend this software! …More

Very Good but needs improvement
Written by CO from Worcester

All of the review here are either all or nothing. This is not a true picture of the program. I used Heredis when I started my genealogy but switched to Reunion as the developers of Heredis seemed to disappear when I attempted to contact them about an issue I was having. I then moved to Reunion 9.
I chose Reunion because I felt that it was more powerful than MacFamily Tree. I currrently have ~8000 people in my family tree and have a copy of another persons Gedcom file with over 110,000. I will admit that I have not tried MacFamilyTree but I have not had any problems with Reunion. I find the input of data is easy and straightforward. The charts are terrible and this is where the improvement needs to occur. I have been able to attach pictures without a problem and like how the pictures are organized. The merging is okay but should be modified to include more information (similar to what the Geni website does with merges).
If you are just beginning your genealogy and are looking for a program to use then definitely take a look at Reunion 9. The price is a bit high but I think that it has more capability than MacFamilyTree. …More13 of 15 people found this useful

Reunion 9
Complicated, very incomplete
Written by TH

Bought it in an AppleStore, returned it 5 days afterwards. It is so complicated to use, I could not get pictures attached to person events (this does not seem to be possible) despite reading the manual. It can only produce charts that are mediocre even by 1980s standards. The customer support did not answer to my mail. Glad I have my 99 US$ back!
The AppleStore employee recommended this, but as I showed him the shortcommings and the ugly user interface, he aggreed that this is not a product that is recommendable, especially not for 99US$! Tried it with him on a mac in the store with Macfamilytree and it worked right away. Bought it and I am now up and running. Guess he learned to try a product first before recommending it! …More20 of 26 people found this useful

Reunion 9
Old product, hard to use
Written by WP

Don't buy this software, it "features" a very dated interface and is missing many functions present in current genealogy applications. For example, there are no mapping functions at all and the few basic charts it offers are looking like they came from the 80s. Furthermore, the web pages generated are useless compared to what I've seen from PC genealogy software.
The price is very high and I've read on the internet that Leister (the vendor) has been charging a whopping 60 US$ for the update from reunion 8 to 9. That's 60% of the price for new customers. Really a rip-off.
I've checked the other options (Heredis, MacFamilyTree and iFamily) and finally bought MacFamilyTree for 49 US$ after my 99 US$ for Reunion went down the drain. …More73 of 83 people found this useful

Can data input into Reunion 9 be transferred to Family Tree Maker (Windows) and vice-versa?

Best Answer
If you want to move the data you have on Family Tree Maker just create a .ged file and save it to disk or a memory stick or email it to your Mac. Then just import the .ged file into Reunion and it will open and be usable or you can just merge it into your exisiting Reunion tree. See your FTM manual or help for details on creating a .ged file. …More
