I love the Visual Thesaurus
Written by MF from Brooklyn

I have been an avid user of the Visual Thesaurus now for a few years. I start out each day with the VT; I use it for brainstorming. The Visual Thesaurus takes me places in the English language that I never would have anticipated. Sometimes a single word can spark a new idea, which can lead to a creative solution to a writing problem. It's also beautiful.
My kids use the Visual Thesaurus when they're writing. There's something about the visual nature of the product that keeps them interested, and encourages them to explore the English language.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this product to anyone who likes words and appreciates the beauty of the English language. …More67 of 86 people found this useful

Great Tool for Writers

This is a fantastic tool for writing. Is almost organic in behavior.
It helps me discover words I would not think of and that stimulates the creatve process and helps me to generate truly creative work.

Excellent Interface, Poor Depth
Written by LR from Calgary
Dec 31, 2008
The interface of this software is truly innovative and superior which is why I bought it.
Unfortunately 145,000 words doesn't cut it. The lack of depth often forces me back to my clunky, heavy Roget's Thesaurus (330,000 words) to be sure that I'm not missing the "exactly right" word that is so often critical (and why I use a thesaurus).
Unless this is just intended as a quick, first reference (which it does well), I hope that it's developers will add to their base of words. With today's hard drives space shouldn't be a problem. …More9 of 9 people found this useful

Interesting word play toy, but not professional-level tool
Written by TA from Bowling Green

Despite the widely mixed reviews, I decided to give this software its fair shake and have mixed feelings myself. As a tool for visualizing and exploring the relationships between words and word roots, this software is quite interesting, yet as a thesaurus and reference, it is widely disappointing. While the database may contain over 100,000 words, it has fewer meanings than words and even fewer connections between words. Much better thesauri are available online for free. This is merely a toy to me, although I haven't explored if my children might find it useful. …More

Love this tool! Love the star diagrams and the voice pronouncement. The only thing I wish for is a history list that is stored permanently on disk. …More
