Overview

Prey tells the story of Tommy, a Cherokee garage mechanic stuck on a reservation and going nowhere. His life changes when an otherworldly crisis forces him to awaken spiritual powers from his long-forgotten birthright. Abducted with his people to a menacing mothership orbiting Earth, he sets out to save himself, his girlfriend, and eventually, the entire planet.

Features
  • Gravity Flipping. Manipulate gravity by shooting special targets located throughout the sphere. There are also zones in the world where gravity is automatically flipped in various directions.
  • Wall Walking. Wall walk surfaces allow Tommy to traverse the sphere's walls and explore otherwise unreachable areas.
  • Death Walking. Death isn't the end. After losing his health, Tommy enters the Death Realm. He must battle the wraiths of fallen spirits to regain both health and spirit energy before returning to his living body.
  • Spirit Mode. Tommy can use the power of his ancient ancestors to leave his body and enter a spirit form. Spirit mode allows Tommy to sneak up on enemies, as well as overcome the sphere's many obstacles.

Works on the latest MacBook GMA X3100

That's right, it's not a trick! A X3100 powered MacBook (with a decent amount of memory 2GB or more should do) did run the demo ofRead moref MacGameFiles and prompted me to purchase the full game. The MacBook won't run it the fastest of the Apple hardware line, but just fast enough to be acceptable to me. Overall, it's quite impressive to see a graphics part that is regarded as "useless", be able to properly render a game like Prey. Things do get a bit hairy in fast action sequences, but catches up rather well.

If in doubt, give the demo a shot.

The requirements to run this game is much lower than suggested, I was able to play it on my 1.25ghz eMac, not modified, just Read morefine at a low and medium guality settings, but of course sluggish when I set it to higher qualities. I was even able to mirror it to my T.V. too; however, when I did, it would show up in black and white on my T.V. but still ran just fine. Funny thing though It did the same thing with Halo, but only when in full screen mode and on it's highest settings. Never the less this game was worth the buy.

The coolest thing about Prey has to be all gravity flipping parts... shooting aliens while you are upside down or looking sideways or upwards trying to find that one attacker... good stuff here! Aspyr has done a great job optimizing this game so that it can run on as many Macs as possible (runs great on a Dual 1.8 G5... yup, still on a G5). So buy it... right now! Support mac gaming.
