Overview
You can use OmniOutliner's document structure to create hierarchies of main headings and subpoints that can be expanded and collapsed, which are immensely useful when it comes to brainstorming new ideas, drilling out specifics and lining up steps needed to get everything done. But you aren't limited to outlines--you've got multiple columns, smart checkboxes, customizable popup lists and an ultra-innovative styles system at your disposal.
Use OmniOutliner to draft to-do lists, create agendas, manage tasks, track expenses, take notes, plan events, write screenplays--and just about anything else you can think of.

OmniOutliner Pro is the best environment in which to write academic papers. Build an outline, move things around, use inline notes to write comments about things your outline needs, and append video, audio, web clippings, PDFs, and other research documents easily. Once the outline is the way you want it, write the text in OmniOutliner Pro, with each outline entry a paragraph. Export the finished product to Word or Pages for final formatting. OmniOutliner Pro does it all in an intuitive, serene, Mac-like way.
Why only 4 stars? Its audio recording capability leaves OmniOutliner Pro on the edge of divinity. Audio recordings are outline-entry-specific. Compare Circus Ponies NoteBook, where you can record an entire lecture or meeting, take notes, and clicking afterwards on the audio icon by each outline entry will take you to the exact place in the audio that corresponds to your notes. I read the ad copy and decided this was a program that I could not live without, wrong. I had hoped that OmniOutliner 3 would help me organize my thoughts and provide an easy to use structure. I have spent hours working with it and find nothing here that I don't have in MS Word or in Pages. I haven't thrown in the towel yet but the money spent was not worth the value. …More

I tried this software because it came with a Mac I bought. Now I've got copies for all my machines. I used to make my outlines in Word, not realizing that an outlining tool existed. Not only can I make an outline in a tenth of the time it used to take, but I have started using this software for all sorts of lists that I used to write down by hand. This is great!! …More
