It works great.

This software is easy to use. It allows you to extract a single scene or multiple scenes from DVD VOB files. However, the DVD must not be encrypted. I think this is where the others reviewing this software were confused. I would have given 5 stars if it worked on encrypted DVDs. So, you must have have: non-encrypted/decrypted/unencrypted content content to get full benefit of the software.
Again, I bought it, installed it, and ran it. It worked exactly as I had expected. The interface is simply and easy to understand. If your DVD has Chapters you can reference those quickly to get to the scene you want fast. I marked "IN" and "OUT" point and clicked extract and I got three files: MOV with A/V, MOV (video only) and .aif file for the audio. It works with EVERYTHING as advertised on the box and website. I'm using it to put family DVDs into a small movie. It's working great. It works with any DVD / DVD VOB disk based files as long as they aren't encrypted.

Cinematize does lots of things freeware can't - I highly recommend it
Written by EB

You guys should blame congress for passing this stupid law, not this poor little software company. There is a law (the DMCA) that makes it illegal to remove encryption. This company is selling software commercially and they don't want to get sued. Of course there are lots of free tools available to do this job because those guys don't care. So here is what I would do. Step 1. Write to your congressperson to change this stupid law, since you just want to copy part of your DVDs that you own legally anyway. Step 2. Use the freeware and remove the encryption. Step 3. Use Cinematize 2 to extract clips from decrypted DVD. I found that this combination works great. Cinematize does lots of things freeware can't.
No commercial software companies provide decryption capability. You need to use freeware or shareware for that. Once you remove the encryption, it is just like any non-encrypted DVD. Cinematize is very easy to use, and you can extract very short clips, which you can't do with freeware or shareware. I highly recommend it.
Cinematize is generally very easy to us and fast, although I found that the extraction speed largely depends on the machine and the settings I use. I've used this app on both G4 and G5, and the difference in speed is obvious, which makes sense since the extraction of video must use lots of CPU power. As long as I use the default settings (i.e. QuickTime) on my G5 machine, the speed is more than satisfactory. …More27 of 31 people found this useful

What is the point?
Written by PD from Denver

I just purchased this program and it works great ON THE TWO DISKS IN MY COLLECTION THAT AREN'T ENCRYPTED! I just wanted to put my music videos on my ipod, but this program only works on dvd's that aren't encrypted. They really should put this in the description for the product in capitol letters in bold type. Maybe then people wouldn't be tempted to spend $80 on a program that is of no use. I could go on... …More

Not intuitive - reminds me of Windows software, not Mac
Written by MH from Coeur D Alene

I try to be as positive as possible in software reviews and do not have much sympathy for nit-pickers who demand 100% perfection from all Mac software. But even giving Cinematize 2 a lot of wiggle room, this application is a big let-down, mainly because it is not intuitive. It is designed like Windows software that somehow got squeezed onto the Mac platform. The interface is crummy and there is a great deal of research to do if you want to even begin to use it. Full discolure: I'm not a techy, but that's the appeal of the Mac, isn't it? People who have other orientations (artists, writers, poets, housewives) can dive into most Mac software without extensive technical backgrounds. With Cinematize 2 plan on spending a lot of time on the phone with their customer support team. The software come-on is appealing: opening non-copy-protected DVDs and putting them in iMovie, but we're going to have to wait for a truly Mac-oriented, intuitive application because this one "ain't" it, and it's too bad Apple supports it by selling it (which is the reason I bought it). Huge disappointment for the Mac user desiring intuitive software. The concept is pure Mac. The execution is pure Microsoft. …More

ABSOLUTELY EASY TO USE (for those not breaking copyright laws)!
Written by KM from Atlanta

I tried this software on both COPYRIGHTED DVDs and non-COPYRIGHTED DVDs. I can not say it is of any use for those who wish to pirate material BUT it is a life saver for those who are working with free-to-use material.
Before I found this I had to do a LOT of work-arounds to get material digitized from a DVD into Final Cut Pro. This is great! No loss in quality of audio or video.
It's a must have for anyone who has to work and re-work with material already written to DVD! …More43 of 71 people found this useful
