Highly Recommended!!
I've been using this for 3 weeks now & it's worth every penny. Rubber "soles" help secure MB Pro in place. Cushions work great exc ept that the velcro makes it harder to put back on. The aluminum helps discipate the heat nicely. I used to a couch pillow previously, but the heat was insulated & the fan turned on frequently. Since using iLap, the fan has not turned on once. The aluminum also keeps the weight much lighter than what I expected. Recommended for those working in front of the TV & in the office just the same! …

Nice!
I've had this for about a week now, and I don't know how I lived without it! The cushions are really comfortable, and my posture has improved. I have a mild case of carpal tunnel and it has helped ease my pain. It was much lighter than I expected. It includes silicon feet for your laptop so they don't slide, in case the feet on your laptop wear out. My only (minor) complaint is that the cushion is attached with Velcro, so it can be a pain to put back on. I definitely recommend it. …

Good But Way Overpriced!
Works pretty good, but there is nothing to hold the laptop in place.

Functional, but armrest material is cheap and uncomfortable (for me)
Although this stand has lasted over a year with very heavy use, the armrest material is a noticeably cheap fake velvet that I foun d uncomfortable (both scratchy and felt like the physical equivalent of fingernails along a chalkboard). I actually covered it completely with duct tape and found it much more comfortable.
It has, as I said, lasted a year+ with constant daily use, indoors and outdoors, and in mixed weather. I'm not sure how the armrest roller would have help up sans duct tape.
This would be a perfect stand, IMO, if the fake velvet (below velveteen quality) were replaced with either soft brown leather (developing a nice patina) or crisp black leather (for a high-end, minimalist appearance).
I should add that this desk is one of the only lap desks/stands I found (in an admittedly brief search) that me my specific needs (functional as a lap desk and as a stand atop a regular desk). I just wish the armrest roller were upgraded. …- Written by Michael H from Wilmington

Mixed
Although the aluminum material for the "shelf" part of the stand is good as a heat sink and lightweight enough that it's easily po rtable, the material of the cushion isn't as good. This material attracts a lot of lint. In fact there was lint on my cushion when I first opened the box before I even used the stand. That and the fact that I received the package from the "returns" center makes me question whether I was really sent a new product even though I paid for a new product. …

Better than some but not worth the money.
I bought this lap stand for my Macbook Air 13". It was a little pricey but I was immediately happy with it when first using it. Th e sticky pads that come with it have stayed on the stand for months now without migrating at all and it really holds the laptop in place well. I can shift my laptop around without worrying at all.
At first I liked that it has a removable pad at the front, because it makes it easy to use either on a desk/table or on your lap, but I started hating it after about the first week when I noticed the material is a very annoying texture that basically acted as a fur-magnet (I have three pets). Seeing as it's now covered in hair and all attempts to wash it failed miserably, I just don't use it at all which then leaves me with an annoying Velcro strip that is constantly exposed and it just doesn't look nice.
I also thought I would like that it's metal and not plastic, but i can't stand it because both my laptop and super-drive (which I use often) have the same material exterior and when all three of them rub against each other it's worse than nails on a chalkboard. It could be worse and I like the idea, but you can probably find a better stand. …- Written by Caitlen L from Ypsilanti

How good it's at dissipating heat, while on a desk

Answer
I wouldn't use a laptop without this -and I still haven't seen anything better.
There is no bod y heat from a desk, so of course using the stand on a desk is no problem. I bought my Rain Design iLap Stand over three years ago to use with my very warm MacBook Pro. I was working on it for hours a day during the summertime and it became too hot to set on a lap. This stand was a GREAT improvement over just setting it on a lap desk or board- I'd even say it was WORTH the money as it is more stable and less solid so the MacB Pro can be used on a lap for long periods of time. (You probably all now know that MacBook Pros do run hot as Apple assured me, but it's only a problem for the user or person not the Apple itself.)
The laptop and the stand remain two separate pieces. That makes it easy to move. I've never opted to take the stand out and about. I ALWAYS use it at home though. The space underneath the stand itself allows air to circulate, and a person's lap remains unaffected by the computer heat.
The four round plastic "feet" that you attach to your laptop keep the computer from sliding off the stand. Yes, it would slide all over without them. The stand arrives in a box that includes the little feet. (It also comes with an oblong detachable pillow. I don't use it at all.) The little feet do not get in the way when packing up the laptop in a travel case or bag. If you need more feet for other laptops you can purchase them directly from Rain Design for a reasonable cost including quick delivery. (The stand will out last computers.) :) …- Answered by Laura P from Haleiwa
