Overview

QUAKE 4 enlists you in the role of Matthew Kane, a member of the legendary Rhino Squad, to penetrate deep into the heart of the Strogg war machine and engage in a series of heroic missions to destroy the barbaric alien race. QUAKE 4 begins only moments after the events of QUAKE II, with the Earth's fleet launching a massive offensive to the planet Stroggos.

As Matthew Kane, you'll invade the alien stronghold, fighting alone, alongside other Marines and in mechanized walkers and hover tanks as they encounter the Strogg and their disturbing amalgamations of man and machine. Built on id Software's revolutionary DOOM 3 technology, QUAKE 4 also features fast-paced multiplayer competition modeled after the speed, style and feel of QUAKE III Arena.

I run Q4 on my iBook G4 (2006) with 1.5 Gb of memory.
It runs well but sometimes freezes when in video mode such as when descendiRead moreng in an elevator.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to overcome the freezing?

    dumb "anti-piracy measure"

    Written by DC from Toronto

In order to play this game, you must have the CD in the drive. I called Aspyr to ask why every time I wanted to play, the softwareRead more asked me to insert the CD, and I was told it is a way to prevent piracy. This is one of the most useless things I have ever heard of. I would not have bought this game had I known I was chained to a CD in order to use it. Come on, would anyone accept having to insert the installer CD every time one needed to use Photoshop, InDesign or Quark Xpress? I am now stuck with a ridiculous game that defeats the purpose of having a "portable" laptop.

Great! Help fix the widescreen problem

Under the system settings there is a choice next to resolution which is aspect ratio. If you have a MBP like my self. Changing it Read moreto 16:10 (make sure it isn't at 16:9) and you will be able to get better res. like 1280x800 or 1440x900.
Plus for those of you that gave it less stars just because you didn't know how to change the aspect ratio doesn't mean you should have rated it any less. Google...Use it, it helps a lot. lol

    Great Single Player, Lacking Multiplayer

    Written by NK from Seattle

    Jul 5, 2006

The graphics on this game are awesome. Upgrading from a 1Ghz G4 I had no idea how good games have become. The single player is immRead moreersive and fun. Although it can be dark at times, it is done well, not trying to scare you like in Doom 3. The voice actors are great and the animation is supurb.
My only problem is with the multiplayer. It is very much in the style of quake 3 or unreal tournement. If you like those games this will not disapoint. However, based on the single player gameplay I was assuming there would be more of a team based large scale realistic battle. Instead it is a very fast pased shooter with short life spans and no vehicles. An open map with the hover tanks and walkers from the single player campaign would have been very cool.

Quake 4 rocks on my Macbook Pro!

    Written by PM from Toronto

Initially I was hesitant to buy Quake 4 for my Macbook Pro not knowing how well the dual-core processors would perform. However afRead moreter installing the patch program I found the gameplay experience to be awesome! There is a bit of a lag while your progress is being saved, but other than that, I would highly recommend Quake 4 to avid and beginner mac gamers alike. Happy fragging!

Good, but better buy the windows version if you play multiplayer

    Written by CB from austin

I got this game a few weeks ago. here's what I have to say.

    Pros:
can run on osx. Its smooth enough.

    Cons:
Multiplayer: ItRead more's hard to find people to play with online. The multiplayer mode is mac only, and the number of mac players out there are very few. When I search for games I never see more than 10 people on.
Graphics: it doesn't support wide screen. Instead, it only supports the windows standard resolutions.

If we can play with windows people online and run full screen at native resolution, this game would be awesome.
