Wonderful Culmination of the Civilization series

Written by AS from Chapel Hill

I've been a player of the Civ series since it first came out on the Mac. So, after the slight disappointment of Civ III and my dabbles in other, similar games (Alpha Centauri), I was thrilled to find RoN out for the Mac. It has not disappointed me. The graphics are quite stunning (and smooth on an iMac G4), the sound effects realistic enough, and the gameplay a challenge. The pace of RoN seems faster than the original Civs, mainly because it's now 'Real Time' - no 'End of Turn' buttons here. Something I also noticed is the slightly confusing game type selection - a result of the huge amount of different types of games one can play (there really are a load).

But, after a time to adapt, I can feel how incredibly addictive this game is..... there really is nothing in games, as fun as watching a band of your commados run rampage through a bunch of your enemy's archers.

Definitely worth buying, and you'll replay over and over and over....

Do not buy this game thinking it will work with the new imac. I bought this for the new 24" 2.8 ghz machine and according to the game's publisher, the new video card is not compatable. Might run on the white imacs, though.... More

    Just great!!

As an experienced player of strategy and tactic games I have to say that I am stunned with RoN. It is close to Civ, but better. The nations have more distinguished traits and the interface is simple, even though the actions the units can make can be complex. The strategy part is outstanding. From a world map the player has to conquer the other empires, which happen in turns. The conquest itself, however, is real time. Different missions and different bonuses effect the outcome and every tactics buff will love the possibilities. To make it short: its great! More

    Truly great game!!

This is a great all around strategy game. There are hours and hours of fun with this game. I played this game for years on pc and when I made the smart move to Mac I was trilled to see it on this platform. I enjoy the way this game moves better than the Civilization or Age of Empires Series (taking turns- waiting). Lots of choices: from simple early era age (horses, spears, bow and arrow) all the way to Stealth Bombers, nuclear weapons, nuclear shields etc.

I have a Intel iMac and a PowerBook Pro with Snow Leopard and the game runs great on both. The game ran fine on Leopard OS also. Remember to load this game using the Administrator login or you might have trouble getting it to work! Once you figure out the easy to learn gameplay you will love it!
