Right on Track

Rail Road Tycoon 3 is a one of a kind experience. Highly detailed graphics mixed with realistic sounds makes the experience of controlling a network of trains come alive. For those of us that played Rail Road Tycoon 2, you'll notice improvements in the economic systems, making the process much more automated, so all you have to concentrate on is laying track and buying trains (if you liked the micro management, it can still be controlled manually like in RRT2).
On the down side, I found multiplayer to be occasionally buggy, with timeouts and disconnects, causing players to randomly drop out of a game. I tried it on multiple systems and configurations, and occasionally it did work fine. Despite these few multiplayer bugs, the rest of the game was flawless and stable. …More412 of 602 people found this useful

This was my first "real" game for my MacG4. WOW!! Once I figured it out, I was hooked. It is very addicting and challenges me every time I play it. The graphics are superb and it has a fine soundtrack also. You do need a good amount of ram, (i have 1gig and 450Prossesor) so close down other apps, before starting, because as you build up amount of trains, businesses, people etc. It does suck up ram. Surprising amount of fun for such a low price.!! …More

Runs fine on Snow Leopard 10.6; Install Rosetta and Quicktime 7
Written by SM from San Francisco

Just tested on my early 2008 MacPro, 10.6 Leopard, Nvidia 8800GT graphics card. Game seems to run fine, all functionality intact, no issues observed (and I checked pretty much every menu option and in-game functionality there is). I suspect older games like this may not work correctly, as previous poster described, if you don't install Rosetta and Quicktime 7 along with Snow Leopard (they're options in the Snow Leopard Installer). If you forget to install them, view the Read Me on the Snow Leopard DVD for how to go back and install these "Optional" items as one-offs. …More

Works Great!

I switched from a Window XP computer to a iMac OS X and the graphics are way better!! The only time when the graphics start to get bad is when you zoom in really really close. It only stutters we when you have about 100 trains and you are in a crowed area up close to a train. We you zoom out sometimes the ground turn's gray but only a split second. Another thing is the tracks are 2-D instead of 3-D but it does not really bother me, and most of the time i am looking at the trains and not the tracks. Over all if your looking to by this game i would recommend it. …More
