Thin, minimal design.
The lightweight, durable Smart Cover has been completely redesigned for the all-new design of iPad Air. It protects your iPad Air screen without covering up its durable aluminum back. So your iPad still looks and feels like an iPad — just with a little extra protection.
The Smart Cover is made of polyurethane and comes in six great colors. It also features a soft, color-matched microfiber lining that helps keep your display clean.
A hinge magnetically aligns the Smart Cover with iPad Air for a perfect fit, while magnets inside help it stay put.
The Smart Cover does double duty as a keyboard stand. Fold it back to tilt iPad Air into a comfortable writing position.
Wake on open. Sleep on close.
Open the Smart Cover, and iPad Air magically wakes up. Close it, and iPad Air automatically goes to sleep.
FaceTime and movie stand.
The Smart Cover folds in just the right places to become the perfect FaceTime and movie-watching stand.

Pricey but you get what you pay for.

Magnets seem stronger than the last gen covers. Three panels work just fine. When you fold it up into a stand the magnets hold it all together. I had zero issues with it unfolding. I poked and pushed it around, stays together just fine. The new magnets are covered by material and are not making a metal on metal connection thus your iPad won't be scratched. Really nice fit and finish.
The only downside is the price. $43 is expensive. But it does work flawlessly and is a premium product from a premium company. …

Love the new design. My old cover was just starting to threaten rip where the material looped around the bar, and I was forever annoyed by the metal-on-metal scuffing. The new design has no such issues! The connection to the iPad Air is all covered. And the new one seems stiffer (maybe the last one started out this way, but I don't think so). Love it! …

It works wonderfully, and I'm confused as to why people can't seem to get their covers to create a stand; I'm using it as a stand right now and it's sturdy as a anything. Love the microfibre interior, and the blue is a fantastic colour. Very pleased. …

I have had my iPad I have been an Apple customer for nearly a decade, but today I just had my first truly discouraging experience. I have had my iPad and my smart cover for a little while now and never had a problem, but today I was using my ipad with the cover functioning as a stand so I could watch a video. The iPad disconnected from the cover and fell directly onto the tile floor in my kitchen. Now I have an $800 iPad with a smashed screen and a completely broken chassis. Thanks, Apple. …

Did not expect this cover to cause $150 in repairs. …
