Just an OK Case

At $79 I expected it to be a gorgeous leather and very functional, but it's not. It really does not feel like leather at all, and I just have not been able to prop the iPad up on a table with the case, the way that I expected I could.. I am thinking about returning it for a refund. …

Great case; really adds to the iPad Air

I immediately decided to get it. I have prior experience with the Smart Case for a previous iPad (3) and didn't like it because the lip at the top seemed wide, clunky, and bulky. It could be that the new smaller form factor of the iPad Air allows it's Smart Case to be more pleasing. The top lip is narrow (like the bezel) and you hardly notice it. For my previous iPad I had both the Smart Case and a Smart Cover which I used in combination with a Belkin Snap Shield Secure. The Belkin case is a low profile shell (for the back) that was designed to accept the Smart Cover. I bring this up because it was my intention to use both setups and alternate them but since I disliked the older Smart Case so much I ended up never using it. For this new Smart Case, this is the only case I intend to get as I really like it. It's pricey as leather is the only choice, but if I had gotten the less expensive Smart Cover, I would have gotten an additional shell for the back so there would be extra cost there. I don't mind paying a little extra for a good solution like this. …

The case only succeeds in fully protecting the entire back and sides of the iPad. As far as functionality, there is little. Anyone with the smart cover knows there is a folded viewing position and writing position. This case work just as well as the smart cover in the writing position but is absolutely useless, as mentioned in other reviews, as a viewing stand. Why? No matter how well folded the cover is, the iPad falls and the tiniest breath. Completely useless. …

Don't knock it

If Apple dropped the price and fixed one of the above I would give it 5. …

I owned the brown leather case, but the flaw with it was that it quickly picked up the oils in my hands, and the colour of the case looked strange after about 6 months.
My recommendation is to stick with the black case as it does not show blemishes or wear very easily, unlike all the other options.

No. The iPad Air is thinner than the iPad 2/3/4 due to the smaller bezel on both sides.
