Cover provides good protection, but isn't a great stand
The cover snugly encloses my iPad Air and provides a good seal between the front flap and the case the whole way around. As you'd The cover snugly encloses my iPad Air and provides a good seal between the front flap and the case the whole way around. As you'd expect, the cutouts line up perfectly and the automatic lock / unlock function also works well.
However, the smart case isn't a great iPad stand. The flap does not provide enough stability for tablet manipulation (typing, launching apps etc) when folded back on itself when standing in the upright, requiring a second hand to support it to prevent it from falling over. Also, in the slightly inclined mode, the strength of the magnet built into the case is insufficient to keep the cover folded back on itself, and as a result the case usually collapses in on itself. Even when it doesn't, the incline is only slightly more angled than horizontal anyway. …

Really nice case...but...
Honestly, the quality of the case itself is great, but it has a design flaw. When the cover is closed, it doesn't lay flat. Beca Honestly, the quality of the case itself is great, but it has a design flaw. When the cover is closed, it doesn't lay flat. Because of the way the hinge material (between the case and cover) was designed to be sturdy, it holds the cover up about 1/16th of an inch. This, in turn, makes the cover not lay flat as the back pane of the cover (nearest the hints) is raised and the other two panels of the cover lay flat. It's significant enough that it's very noticeable when looking at it. …

Great look & feel, but maybe too soft as a stand

Nice, soft leather with an even softer interior to protect you iPad Air. Full coverage front and back so no worries about scratching your device. Thin and light so it complements the tablet. The only complaint I have is when the cover is folded and used as a stand, I have to position it just right otherwise the triangular "base" created by the cover collapses and the unit falls backwards. This seems to be because the cover is soft. Perhaps the polyurethane cases will work better since they appear more rigid. …

Most frustrating Apple product ever

It is beautiful, pr Suffice it to repeat - This product would never have graced Apple's shelves when Steve Jobs was in control. It is beautiful, protects well, but that's it. Used as a stand, it collapses if you bump, breathe on, or even just walk near your iPad. (Watch someone try to use it on an airplane). It's just too lightweight to hold the iPad for more than a few minutes if you're trying to actually use the iPad. But there is a fix! Grab two medium size Paper Clamps and clamp the Smart Case in the "Stand" position. It works perfectly to make the stand rigid and won't scratch or harm your iPad because the clamp squeezes the raised ridge on the front of the Smart Case and clamps the cover to the back of your iPad. Quick and it's free if you have the clamps available. A wonderful, beautiful case that requires a clunky fix to be useful. Apple should be ashamed. …

To be honest, I was kinda worried about some comments about the the cover ... can't stay flat or the stand can't stand still …etc.. But guess what, I don't see those problems... Everything looks or works perfectly fine to me when I put my iPad Air into the case. No hassle at all. The buttons on the side work fine too.
Not sure if Apple has already redesigned the case based on people's complaint or I am just lucky ? I did notice the color and the texture of the leather are slightly different so I’d suggest that you go to Apple store to pick the best one. If you don’t like it, you can return it in 14 days anyway… Take it easy ;) …
