- Connect the dock to an electrical outlet using the Apple USB Power Adapter (included with your iPhone) to charge the battery.
- Place your iPhone in the dock and enjoy clear audio during speakerphone calls thanks to special audio porting.

Seriously? Doesn't work with Apple custom leather case?

Great phone, great dock, great leather case. Only one of the last 2 goes with the phone at any one time. C'mon Apple! You should know better than to create one product that makes it difficult or impossible to use another of your own products! How about bringing back the old insert thing, with one for the phone alone, and one with the beautiful leather case? …

Great idea but poorly developed!
I was excited to hear that Apple was again making docks for my iPhone 5 because I've owned previous models. When I purchased the i I was excited to hear that Apple was again making docks for my iPhone 5 because I've owned previous models. When I purchased the iPhone 5S I went out the next day and bought the Apple dock.
I think its a great product however there's a little issue that I find distracting. That is, when you have the phone docked with the iPhone 5S its a bit cumbersome to use the TouchID with your fingers because the very front is slightly blocking your finger from using the TouchID.
I'm going to use it for a few days to see how much it bothers me but I have a feeling I'll be returning it.
I hope this helps someone that may be interested in purchasing. …

Finally An Apple Dock, But...

I hated using 3rd party docks because they tend to be on the ugly side. I like the look of this dock. It's classic Apple. And it does what docks do. Charges, syncs, and is a nice little home for my iPhone 5. However, the two main things I do not like are that the home button is partially covered by the dock when the phone is sitting in it. Apple seems to be really slacking off on little design details like this lately. Also, the dock is light, so you will have to hold it down when you take the phone out of it. It's not heavy enough to use with just one hand. But all in all I do like it, just not 5 stars. I'd really give it 3.5 stars but can't do that here so I gave 3. Oh, it SHOULD be cheaper for what it is and what it does. I mean it's essentially just a differently-shaped power adapter. …

It's ideal for keeping your phone in an upright stance for seeing notifications at a glance. I love plugging it into my desk speakers and running music through it. It's a perfect minimal accessary to keep my focus on the technology I've got going on and keeps the phone at rest and charging as long as I need it until I pick it up to use it again! …

Great product judged harshly
Many reviewers are bashing this product because it does not support your iPhone if it is in a case. Others complain that the home Many reviewers are bashing this product because it does not support your iPhone if it is in a case. Others complain that the home button is partially obstructed, making it difficult to use Touch ID, and some are complaining that volume controls are disabled when the iPhone is docked.
The issues listed above will only be a problem if you are trying to use the dock for a purpose it is not meant to fulfill. If you want a simple charging dock, or you want your iPhone to be docked at your desk with the headphones plugged into it so you can listen to music while you work, then you should check out the Twelve South HiRise Stand. It supports any iOS device with a lightning connector and you do not have to remove the case. In addition the headphone jack is completely unobstructed so you can plug in your headphones and listen to music while your iPhone is charging in the docking station.
If you want to play the music on your iPhone through a real stereo system, then you *need* Apple's dock because it is the only product I have found that gives you a line out. Many reviewers rated it low because they plugged headphones into the line out and discovered that the volume controls have miraculously disappeared. This is what a line out does. It provides pre-amp signal, which should be plugged into an amplifier. It is not the same thing as the headphones jack on the iPhone, which outputs signal amplified for headphones.
If the line out is important to you there are ways to address the somewhat valid concerns raised by reviewers. You can get a case which makes it easy to expose the bottom of the iPhone, such as the Speck CandyShell Flip case. I have tried it and it is very easy to use. Another thing you can do (at your own risk) is to remove the white plastic cover of the dock. You can then dock the iPhone while it is still in its case. I have tested this with Apple's leather case and it works perfectly. This way the home button is unobstructed. The down side to this, other that voiding the warranty of the product, is that the iPhone is supported only by the lightning connector itself so it can be really easy to damage the devices. This procedure is not recommended.
In short, the problem with iPhones in cases can be solved with a case that supports the dock, the obstructed home button is not really a problem, and the problem with disabled volume control is actually a feature, which, to my knowledge, is not available on any other product. …
