Learn more about AirPort Extreme

  • Ultrafast 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

With 802.11ac technology and a powerful beamforming antenna array, AirPort Extreme gives you up to 3x faster Wi-Fi and a stronger, clearer signal.1 And because it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time, your wireless devices will automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest performance possible.

    Designed with performance in mind.

With the antennas at the top of the elevated design, AirPort Extreme now has a higher platform for dispersing the signal. We also increased the number of antennas. There are now six of them — three for the 2.4GHz band and three for the 5GHz band. Together with 802.11ac technology, they let you connect faster, farther, and with more power than ever before.

Easy setup for iOS and OS X.

Connect your DSL or cable modem to AirPort Extreme and use the built-in setup assistant to create your new wireless network in just a few taps from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. If you’re using a Mac, use the built-in AirPort Utility. Setup is just as fast and just as easy.

Share your hard drive or printer.

AirPort Extreme can turn any external USB hard drive into a secure drive you can share across your Wi-Fi network. So all the documents, videos, photos, and other files instantly become available to anyone, Mac and PC users alike. You can even connect a printer and share it wirelessly.

    Compatibility and security.

Any Wi-Fi device you have will work with AirPort Extreme. That’s because it’s compatible with devices using the 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, and 802.11ac specifications. And since AirPort Extreme features a built-in firewall that protects your network from malicious Internet attacks, you can enjoy the web with peace of mind.

Just replaced my AP Extreme (Gen 5) and compared to that its much faster. Range wise, I haven't found much of an improvement, but then again it could be my house. I still have to use another AP EXPRESS to extend my network in my house. Simple to set it up and looks good too.

For people who don't want to waste time configuring or do complicated tasks with their router, this is the one. And on top of that, the range is just amazing.

The first issue was My grandson bought me this and took my older Airport Extreme with him. I had serious issues getting it set up. The first issue was an ISP/user problem and not the fault of the Airport Extreme. The second issue was that it would first give me all greens and then say the ethernet cable was disconnected. This lasted for about 30 minutes, made me seriously crazy and then it just cleared up. It has worked perfectly ever since. A couple reviewers have put bogus information up and I just wanted to correct their errors. First, I have an ATT Microcell connected to this router and to the previous one. The Microcell can be sensitive to its location and general environment but it works perfectly with the Airport Extreme. I also have a 2TB WD MyBook Studio drive connected to my system. It worked fine with the original Airport Extreme and it works fine with this one. I use it for storage and to wirelessly support Time Machine for a MacBook Air and a MacBook Pro 15".

Please don't project your problems onto the Airport Extreme, it works fine with both of these devices

Replaced an RT-N66U which had not only more features but also more issues. What I like about the Airport Extreme is the ease of setup, the very easy bridging via WiFi. The Windows version of the software is a waste of time. In all I use its as a glorified AP, why only AP? Well it lacks dual WAN, unable to put a 3G dongle on it and I'm not going to hook up my USB disk to such a slow USB 2.0 (I believe were in 2014 AD, not BC). At this price it should have QoS at the very least and USB 3.0 not to forget more ports (both USB 3.0 and LAN). Incidentally it handles old g very well so if you have some legacy kit then you can consider it.
Overall satisfied but not overwhelmed who I imagined more leading edge,
