Product Information

Back up a lifetime’s worth of memories with AirPort Time Capsule, a wireless hard drive that works seamlessly with Time Machine in OS X. It’s also a full-featured Wi-Fi base station with the latest 802.11ac technology and simultaneous dual-band support. Choose from 2TB and 3TB models.
  • Automatic wireless backup.

AirPort Time Capsule includes a 2TB or 3TB hard drive that works with Time Machine in OS X to create the perfect no-hassle backup solution.1 There are no cables, and you can back up all the Mac computers in your home to a central location — automatically, wirelessly, and in the background.

    Ultrafast 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

With 802.11ac technology and a powerful beamforming antenna array, AirPort Time Capsule gives you up to 3x faster Wi-Fi and a stronger, clearer signal.2 And because it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time, your wireless devices will automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest performance possible.

    Designed with performance in mind.

With the antennas at the top of the elevated design, AirPort Time Capsule now has a higher platform for dispersing the signal. We also increased the number of antennas. There are now six of them — three for the 2.4GHz band and three for the 5GHz band. Together with 802.11ac technology, they let you connect faster, farther, and with more power than ever before.

Easy setup for iOS and OS X.

Connect your DSL or cable modem to AirPort Time Capsule and use the built-in setup assistant to create your new wireless network in just a few taps from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. If you’re using a Mac, use the built-in AirPort Utility. Setup is just as fast and just as easy.

Share your hard drive or printer.

AirPort Time Capsule can turn any external USB hard drive into a secure drive you can share across your Wi-Fi network. So all the documents, videos, photos, and other files instantly become available to anyone, Mac and PC users alike. You can even connect a printer and share it wirelessly.

    Compatibility and security.

Any Wi-Fi device you have will work with AirPort Time Capsule. That’s because it’s compatible with devices using the 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, and 802.11ac specifications. And since AirPort Time Capsule features a built-in firewall that protects your network from malicious Internet attacks, you can enjoy the web with peace of mind.

Did i NEED it? Not sure, had a airport extreme and express (to extend range) in home and decided to replace both with this 3TB 201 Did i NEED it? Not sure, had a airport extreme and express (to extend range) in home and decided to replace both with this 3TB 2013 Time Capsule and have an easy backup drive built in, so far excellent. Range seems to be way better, set up was a breeze, just left everything at default settings (didn't mess with channels, or 5gz) and so far getting my paid for speeds throughout the house on speedtest on iPhone 5's, macbook pro retina, air, iPads etc. The time machine backup is also amazingly a breeze, backing up 3 different machines, don't have to partition the drive based on which machine, you just tell it to backup to the time capsule and it figures it out for you. Love it. One small minor wish, Apple make a BLACK one please, it would blend in with people's components better like the apple tv, but whatever.

I found this extremely easy to setup and it is working well. I am really happy with the Bonjour printing support. On my Mac it w I found this extremely easy to setup and it is working well. I am really happy with the Bonjour printing support. On my Mac it worked without any changes. On my Windows 7 box, I downloaded the Bonjour driver and then it worked.

The time machine backup is going to take 18 hours for starters but after that I'm looking forward to having constant backups on the mac.

This unit is larger than I expected, about the size of a brick. It is quite heavy, probably from the hard drive within.

Overall, I'm happy with this purchase.

Second one, works fine as a network adapter, but is way to slow for a hard drive, wifi or with ethernet. I bought it to transfer 800gb of photos onto it. moving them over to it was very difficult, seemed unstable, unreliable, and it was never doing what it said it was doing. After it taking a couple of days to transfer my photos, now when i load the shared drive through finder, it occasionally says it doesn't exist, or was disconnected from network, then i go into the airport utility and wait for it to load there and sometimes that works but not always. after it loads , you click onto the data folder which inside is my photos, which at this point takes atleast 15 mins for the previews to load. I finally get them loaded and notice theres 504 photos that the icons appear transparent, and say they are zero bytes. i check the info on the photos and they say they were created jan 1984 at 3am, and modified jan 2068. so what does that mean. anyway, i have to rate it 2 stars because for the price , its not worth the aggrivation

Is it expensive? yes... is it worth it? yes, at least for me... I have no idea why people say they had problem with the setup caus Is it expensive? yes... is it worth it? yes, at least for me... I have no idea why people say they had problem with the setup cause I did it all in my old iphone with absolutely no problems in less than 3 minutes. Love the design, is heavy but it needs to be is a back up plus you don't want it to easily knocked to the floor. I bought 3TB not that I needed it but why not?

Had problems with the 2.4GHz band quitting intermittently. Called support and they replaced. Same thing with the replacement. S Had problems with the 2.4GHz band quitting intermittently. Called support and they replaced. Same thing with the replacement. So after much troubleshooting and head scratching; had an "ah ha" moment and moved the device a couple of feet away. It is now "rock solid". Still don't know why but it works; that's all that matters!!
