Do not expect 1080p HDTV quaility with this DV HDMI
I was disappointed with the 720p resolution I got from mirroring the "Retina" display and THEN read the Apple Web site.
Check Ap ple Web site first! Do not miss the IPad (4th gen) tech spec ;)

Outrageously overpriced
This adapter did not function well at all. Half the time the TV does not recognize the signal. The rest of the time the image wa s poor.
It is excessively overpriced for what it is and performs poorly. This is an absolute insult from apple. …- Written by Ben P from Ojo Sarco

Works as intended
I bought this yesterday and connected my ipad to my bedroom 720 HD plasma TV and the picture was great (Netflix, HBOgo, Itunes). A couple of minor issues were that the display was not a full screen on the TV unless I was playing videos like on Netflix. Also the price is high but what's new there... I still have to try it on my 1080 LED TV to see if the picture quality would suffer but so far it has done exactly what I needed. …

Worked OK for awhile
I also have reached the stage where the adapter only works when I manipulate the cable just right. Otherwise, no sound, no pictur e or sound, or fuzzy picture. If you aren't supposed to bend the cable tail, then make it rigid so there's no chance of creating a short. Poor design for the price. When it works, it's great, but it takes a few minutes each time I use it to dial it in. And then, don't bump it! …

What resolution do iTunes movie rentals display in with this adapter if I got the HD version? Full 1080p?
- Asked by Gabriel V from San Jose
- Nov 30, 2012
Answer
The iTunes movie rentals would display at the max resolution of the adapter, which, unfortunately, i s 1600 x 900. This is due to the fact that the cable has inside it a computer chip, which decodes the information from the iPad, and then up scales it to 1080p, so the image is first compressed, and then expanded again, decreasing the image quality. However, due to the fact that the cord has a chip inside it, it may be possible to update the chip, and increase the resolution in the future. Until then, though, the true resolution of the video is up scaled 1600 x 900, whether you have the HD version or not. …
