With the Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader, it's easy to download photos and videos from your digital camera to your iPad or iPad mini so you can view them on the gorgeous iPad display and share them with family and friends.
After you insert the SD card into the reader, your iPad automatically opens the Photos app, which lets you choose which photos and videos to import, then organizes them into albums. When you sync iPad or iPad mini to your PC or Mac, the photos and videos on your iPad are added to your computer's photo library.
The Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader supports standard photo formats, including JPEG and RAW, along with SD and HD video formats, including H.264 and MPEG-4.

What Apple doesn't clearly tell you is that the SD card must have been used by a camera, or at least have the appearance of being used by a camera. After much frustration, I finally realized the only SD card that would read using this device was one that had actually been used to take pictures with a camera. So, I took a blank SD card, created a folder named DCIM (recognize the folder name?) and then created another folder inside with the camera ID (in my case, PANA_100, since I have a Panasonic camera). Once I did this, I could then copy whatever picture I wanted into this folder and it would import onto my iPad.
I hope this helps! …

If you shoot raw with a jpeg it'll only download the jpeg and not the raw file, however if you only shoot and use the raw file only it'll download the full size raw file. I'm happy with the camera reader in the way it works and it's very fast with downloading from the card. …
