Product Information

  • With the Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader, it's easy to download photos and videos from your digital camera to your iPad or iPad mini so you can view them on the gorgeous iPad display and share them with family and friends.

After you insert the SD card into the reader, your iPad automatically opens the Photos app, which lets you choose which photos and videos to import, then organizes them into albums. When you sync iPad or iPad mini to your PC or Mac, the photos and videos on your iPad are added to your computer's photo library.

The Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader supports standard photo formats, including JPEG and RAW, along with SD and HD video formats, including H.264 and MPEG-4.

Use this with a card to keep X ammount of videos to watch and upload at whim to my mini to watch, also use SD card as a photo library. basically this makes your ipad mini into a much larger platform for getting vids and pics onto it without having your computer at hand to upload new / diff vids or photos from. which is perfect for travel where you want a HUGE GB of vids to upload to watch on your ipad mini.

I bought this for my new iPad mini. You should insert the card in the reader, then insert into iPad. No problem with transfer.

Not working with iPhone. Not possible to upload photos from iPad to SD card, only import from SD card. Import been working so far Not working with iPhone. Not possible to upload photos from iPad to SD card, only import from SD card. Import been working so far pretty well, a bit slow in case of big file size. It is simply crazy that there is no upload option as I want to transfer some iCloud/iPad/iPhone photos to SIM card when I can't access to the network and device memory is getting full. Shame on you Apple!

I'm no prom, but can take 50-100 photos a day on vacation. I wanted a solution to get RAW images onto my iPad for some quick on-the-go editing (using a RAW editor like Photogene...).

The process of transferring photos is cumbersome. First, plug your SD card into the Reader. Then plug the Reader into the iPad. The Photos app will launch automatically with a new option on the bottom, "Import." Here's where it gets s-l-o-w. Each RAW file (maybe 15MB?) takes about 1 second to load as a thumbnail. If you have 50 or 100 or 500 images on your SD card, they will all have to load before you can do anything. Remember, this is just the image thumbnail. Oh, and you can't switch over to another app while this is happening...basically you are stuck waiting for this to complete.

Once all the thumbnails load, you can then choose which images you actually want to import to the iPad. Tap on them to select, then choose "Import" and wait some more for the images to actually get imported into your Camera Roll.

Overall, not a great solution--seems a bit haphazard, and I wish some OS updates would speed this up. Falls short of "Apple" simplicity and magic.
