I tried the Amazon Basic DVD drive, but the speed is so slow that I had to return it. The Apple USB SuperDrive doesn't have this problem, though.

Seriously. The retina display has a resolution of 2880 x 1800. I think it's time for 1080p viewability.

Although it still irks me that such a device is even necessary in this day and age. Sure improved portability is a nice feature but taking away the optical disk drive to do so seems silly. Overall no complaints, however.

Brought it home plugged it in and started to download some CD's into ITunes. First couple of CD's went really quickly, burn speed were reaching 14/15 x. Put in my third CD and heard a fairly loud noise that didn't sound quite right. Pulled the CD out, put it back in, noise was gone, but the CD download time was now barely hitting 4/5x. Unplugged it. Restarted computer. Same issue, but now it is freezing up. Then I read the reviews. Sorry Apple. This product is coming back.

My one complaint is that the cord is RIDICULOUSLY short... that's not much of a complaint, though. Ha!

I wouldn't hesitate for a moment buying another one of these devices. Carefully read the product description before you buy it, but then proceed with confidence!
