Product Information

  • The 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector so if someone should trip over it, the cord disconnects harmlessly and your MacBook Pro stays put safely. It also helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector lights up; an amber light lets you know that your notebook is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives you an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook Pro with Retina display.

I have had all versions of MagSafe. The Original T, The L, and now MagSafe 2 with my MBP Retina display. I am a fan of the T des I have had all versions of MagSafe. The Original T, The L, and now MagSafe 2 with my MBP Retina display. I am a fan of the T design but the magnet holding it in is way to weak. I don't know if it is because its smaller profile, but I can barely touch my laptop without the thing falling out. It is becoming extremely annoying to the point where I might need to walk around with a brand new MBP with its power cord duct taped to it! I believe the magnets are in the systems itself but please Apple come out with a revised adapter with a second set of neodymium magnets in the charging tip to counter act the problem and grab the machine tighter. I'd rather it be bulkier and work properly. I understand the point that is supposed to break away, but not by a feather landing on it! We miss Steve Jobs. I hope this isn't the type of product glitches we will have to get accustomed to now. Apple is supposed to be Apple, This isn't Apple at all.

  • Charger burning

    1.0 out of 5 stars

I agree with everyone who has discussed the issue of our macbook pro charger burning itself. I noticed mine do this the other day I agree with everyone who has discussed the issue of our macbook pro charger burning itself. I noticed mine do this the other day when I saw that my charger wasn't charger my laptop. I played with the cord a bit to get a connection which I did, but then when I let go of it the wire would be bright and lots of smoke coming out. This happened in my dorm room at school so it has freaked me out now that it will happen with the new charger that I bought.

  • Terrible

I had the computer for 2 weeks and the magnet was already not holding and it was constantly losing connection even when in the rig I had the computer for 2 weeks and the magnet was already not holding and it was constantly losing connection even when in the right position. The movement created just by typing would actually dislodge it just enough so you'd discover it wasn't charging. They sent me a new one and I can see I will soon have the same problem. The adaptor is too big, is easily tapped out of place, and worst of all does not sit flush in the port and has to be jostled to get a connection. The magnetic adapter for the MacBook Pro (non retina) was so great - never a problem, strong magnet, perfect size so not easily dislodged, and the cable ran parallel to the computer (not perpendicular like the new one) so less likely to break. Why they messed with such a perfect design, I do not know.

  • JUNK! Apple 85W Magsafe 2 Power Adapter for MacBook Pro with Retina = JUNK!

    1.0 out of 5 stars

I've only had my VERY expensive MacBook Pro with Retina Display for about a year! The 85W power adapter has already burned out and I've only had my VERY expensive MacBook Pro with Retina Display for about a year! The 85W power adapter has already burned out and now I see a new one is around $85 USD. This is such an incredible rip off! I've had PC laptops with very inexpensive power supplies that have lasted close to 10 years!!! This has made my estimation of Apple go completely downhill. The battery on my iPhone 5 is also JUNK since it has worn out quickly and they tell me at the Apple store it would cost $150 USD to replace it!!!! For a freaking BATTERY!!! I tried switching to Apple, but I'm going back to PC as soon as this laptop burns out. What a piece of JUNK! Apple should off to replace it for free since I've only had the computer for year! I'm very disappointed in your company.
