The converter works as advertised. It lets me use an existing power supply with my new MacBook Pro Retina.

The converter's magnet attaches to the power supply's old MagSafe connector very effectively. The magnetic connection between the converter and the MacBook isn't as strong. The problem is that the old MagSafe adapter and the converter is now long enough that leverage makes it very easy to disconnect from the MacBook. This is very annoying, especially if you hold the MacBook in your lap while using it.

  • Great way to extend the life of existing adapters

Does what it claims to. Small and unobtrusive, works great with the Thunderbolt display. I'd rather be able to swap cords, but th Does what it claims to. Small and unobtrusive, works great with the Thunderbolt display. I'd rather be able to swap cords, but this is better than replacing the monitor!

As for the other reviewer complaining about having to replace his existing adaptors - that doesn't make sense. His existing adaptors work with his older machines, and with this they now work with his new machine. The only potential problem is if he is planning on a new location with only the new power adaptor... Inconvenient, sure - but hardly forced to buy a bunch of new stuff to replace his existing.

  • Worked for a good while, but it's finally gone out...

N I had mine for longer than a year, and it worked without fail, but it's finally gone to the "powering, but not charging" state. No amount of wiggling, switching out cords, switching out laptops has worked. I'm not going to buy another one. I'll just get a full MagSafe 2 power supply and be done with it. Mine was for my desk setup as well, so it didn't get jostled a lot. I just noticed one day that it wasn't charging, and thought that was odd. Powering but not charging is not helpful for me; I need it to power my laptop so that I can grab and go...

It never supplies enough power for my laptop to charge, it just supplies enough power for it to run on while plugged in (but the battery doesn't charge), but that's when it is in a good mood, and has been jiggled just right, flipped up and down and begged to work. Most the time, it won't even supply enough power for it to power the laptop, or if it is supplying enough power to run it (but not charge) it suddenly just stops doing that, even though nothing has changed. I have tried it with multiple charging cables (in case it was the cable) and my husband's laptop, with the same effect. What a garbage product. VERY disappointed.

I couldn't believe this was as bad as some of the reviews suggested. I ordered one so my old power-adapter wouldn't go to waste. I I couldn't believe this was as bad as some of the reviews suggested. I ordered one so my old power-adapter wouldn't go to waste. It worked four times: the first time straight away and then three more times after a lot of jiggling and cleaning the pins. I took it back to the Apple Store and they replaced it with a new one. The new one worked once. After I charged my laptop and then disconnected it, it has never worked again despite endless cleaning and jiggling. They should sell these in packs of 20 and mark them "Single Use Only".
