None of my drives that I use in the field work unless I'm connected to power. This is a major problem for me. When I'm in the field capturing footage and need to offload data to a drive, I have to use my old laptop.

I've tested the MOTU Ultralite Hybrid mk3 and Iomega eGo. They don't work via bus power. An old FireLite drive works fine via bus power. If you have devices that demand more, you may be SOL. It is a decent solution but isn't a true FireWire gateway.

Apple, how do you This adapter only allows for you to connect a FW800 peripheral to a Thunderbolt port on a Mac- not vice versa. Apple, how do you expect loyal customers to upgrade to your new speedy connection protocol and STAY loyal when you don't provide them the means to? Very poor business.

This adapter works just fine, no problems whatsoever. It is also very small, portable, and it looks a thousand times better than any other adapter on the market. I am very satisfied with this product.
