Thin, minimal design.
The slim, yet sturdy Smart Cover protects your iPad screen without covering up its durable aluminum back. So your iPad still looks and feels like an iPad — just with a little extra protection.
The Smart Cover is made of polyurethane and features a soft, color-matched microfiber lining that helps keep your display clean.
An aluminum hinge magnetically aligns the Smart Cover with iPad for a perfect fit. While magnets inside help it stay put.
The Smart Cover does double duty as a keyboard stand. Fold it back to tilt iPad into a comfortable writing position.
Wake on open. Sleep on close.
Open the Smart Cover, and iPad magically wakes up. Close it, and iPad automatically goes to sleep.
FaceTime and movie stand.
The Smart Cover folds in just the right places to become the perfect FaceTime and movie-watching stand.

It aligns perfect every time and makes a very handy stand whenever you need one. Keeps the screen clean as well however, the smart cover has damaged my iPad 2 on the side the magnet sticks to. It has left it scratched and ugly. If I had known it would do that, I would have bought another case or something that wouldn't damage the product. …

It does not protect the back part at all which is what I see getting marked also. I would recommend getting a case that slides in and out like a pocket to protect it if you plan to carry it in a bag because it gets scratched easily. The case does NOT clean the screen as well as it claims to. …

Also, when my wife would fold the cover all the way back flat against the iPad, the magnet would put the iPad in sleep mode, even though it was open. I wish I could attach pictures of how the cover is falling apart. Disappointed. …

Like this better than the full cover
I've had both this cover and the full magnetic cover and I prefer this one. I don't fold the covers all the way back making it ea I've had both this cover and the full magnetic cover and I prefer this one. I don't fold the covers all the way back making it easier to grip and use the camera. I prefer to fold it in half and the ends at the fold tend to stretch a bit on both cases. Both my cases were blue an the dirt does show. The full cover to me is bulky and hard to slide into my purse. It does protect better but it's just so bulky and since the most delicate part is the screen, this cover works fine for me - no damage when it fell on hardwood floor. I use my iPad all the time and the magnet holds just fine and I don't see any scratches. I'm getting a new black one now. …

Can you use this case for first generation ipad
- Asked by Adam B from Dunlap
- Mar 28, 2011
You can set it on the first generation iPad for temporary protection, but that is not it's intended You can set it on the first generation iPad for temporary protection, but that is not it's intended purpose. The magnetic bar on the side of the smart covers hooks, and auto-alligns, itself to the side of the magnetic iPad 2. When closed, it puts it to sleep, and opening it awakens it. Placing any smart cover on an iPad 1 will protect it but it may slide off. I recommend purchasing a cover for first generation iPad, because buying this adds unneeded features and most likely a higher cost. …
