Thin, minimal design.
The slim, yet sturdy Smart Cover protects your iPad screen without covering up its durable aluminum back. So your iPad still looks and feels like an iPad — just with a little extra protection.
The Smart Cover is made of polyurethane and features a soft, color-matched microfiber lining that helps keep your display clean.
An aluminum hinge magnetically aligns the Smart Cover with iPad for a perfect fit. While magnets inside help it stay put.
The Smart Cover does double duty as a keyboard stand. Fold it back to tilt iPad into a comfortable writing position.
Wake on open. Sleep on close.
Open the Smart Cover, and iPad magically wakes up. Close it, and iPad automatically goes to sleep.
FaceTime and movie stand.
The Smart Cover folds in just the right places to become the perfect FaceTime and movie-watching stand.

It aligns perfect every time and makes a very handy stand whenever you need one. Keeps the screen clean as well however, the smart cover has damaged my iPad 2 on the side the magnet sticks to. It has left it scratched and ugly. If I had known it would do that, I would have bought another case or something that wouldn't damage the product. …

It does not protect the back part at all which is what I see getting marked also. I would recommend getting a case that slides in and out like a pocket to protect it if you plan to carry it in a bag because it gets scratched easily. The case does NOT clean the screen as well as it claims to. …

A big step back

So when I got my iPad Air 2, of course I would get another nice Smart Cover. Nope. Apple doesn't make it in leather anymore. So I got the red plastic cover reluctantly. I took it back within 48 hours. It was a fingerprint magnet. So I reluctantly got a dark gray version. At least now I don't see every smudge...
The current Smart Cover is the same as the one for the original iPad Air, so others know this already but it was a surprise to me. It has three panels instread of four. The old one always held the triangular shape. It's very hard for three panels to hold this shape. The old one had a nIce metal hinge that let it fold completely over. This one doesn't have a good hinge and seems to fall off a lot.
I have since gotten a case with a four-panel cover that works just like the old Smart Cover.. So that proves that four panels are still possible even though the Air is slightly smaller than the previous iPads. I would prefer to have a cover vs. a case but that's what it took to get a cover that works. I think Apple took as big a step back with the Air Smart Cover as they took a step forward with the Air and Air 2. Apple seems to have forgotten that a cover or case contribute significantly to the ease and comfort of holding the iPad. It's not just a protective cover. Why sell something that makes it hard to use? …

The case always always flops over. Also, the case is now cracked in many places. I have had this cover for just over one year. I rarely use my iPad. This is an A-W-F-U-L product!!! Do NOT buy this product! Based on the other reviews I have read, I am not alone.
