Product Information

  • The 45-Watt MagSafe Power Adapter for MacBook Air features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Redesigned specifically for MacBook Air, the adapter is the perfect traveling companion. It has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible only with MacBook Air with MagSafe Power Port.

  • Works Fine - BUT PRICE IS RIDICULOUS

I've got a MacBook Air 13" (2011) that I feel is the finest travel computer for a businessman ever invented. I love this little w orkhorse. Also, the power adapter on mine works just fine ... no problems. Instead of unplugging every time I hit the road, I thought it would be a good idea to buy a spare for my computer bag. Wrong!

$79.95? Is this someone's idea of a joke? Eighty bucks for a power adapter? Sure the cell phone manufacturers have run this scam for years, refusing to standardize on a plug configurations/power ratings so that the buyer is forced to buy yet another power adapter (I've got about twenty of them sitting in a drawer). But those pieces of junk are only $20 or $30. $80? For what?

I've got AppleCare, so I'll just keep on plugging in and unplugging the one adapter I have until it dies, then you can replace it for free. Really, you folks at Apple build the coolest stuff on earth, but you do need to re-think your policy of over-charging for the small stuff.

  • 4 months old, already failing!

I'm a new Apple person, love the MacBook Air! But the power supply is already intermittent. It is under warranty, but they will no t pay me for the half-day I will spend going to the Apple store to get something that should last longer than the computer!

  • Afraid to Move My Computer

I have only had my MacBook Pro for about 2 months, and my power cable is starting to fail. I can't move my computer or the connect ion is broken between my power cable and my computer.

  • Poor quality, remarkably flimsy for its price

    1.0 out of 5 stars

I have had my charger for about 2 years now and it is taped in so many different areas that I am convinced it is more tape than ac tual charger. I find that the outer coating is very poor quality and tends to bend and break very easily. The position in which I keep my laptop on the desk requires that my charger is slightly bend right at the end which connects to my MacBook Air, within 3 months of keeping it in that position, the outer coating broke and required taping. I find that the price is very high for a product of such inferior quality and I would expect that Apple puts as much thought into the design, life, and durability of its chargers as it does for it's laptops.
I would highly recommend that the company consider redesigning the charger and think about the long-term life of this product.

  • APPLE PLEASE FIX YOUR CABLES!!!

    1.0 out of 5 stars

After reading the bad reviews of this cable I did everything I could to be careful with the one that came with my 2011 MacBook Air . My efforts made little difference. After about 6 months the rubber sheathing on the small cable at the spot where cable attaches to the magnetic end started to wear out and come apart. I wrapped the damaged stop with a material in an effort to extend the life of the cable but after about a year the cable stopped working. The cable sheathing material simply can not tolerate the wear at the endpoints. I've had this same problem with many iPhone and iPod usb cables.

I recommend this minor and likely low cost change in the cable design to mitigate the problem....

Extend the thicker sheathing at the cable endpoints an inch or two. This would keep the smaller cable from bending at such a sever angle at the end points and would keep it from wearing out as quickly.

For the money you charge us for these cables and the lack of alternatives, you have an obligation to make a better product. Please fix the problem and rest my concerns that this is and intentional flaw designed to gouge us even deeper.

  • Breaks easy, too expensive

    1.0 out of 5 stars

I've had my MacBook Air with charger for a year and a half now. One day the wires just broke in half at the base. I took it to the apple store to replace it and they told me it would be $80 for a new one.... Why would I want to pay $80 for a new one that's just going to break again out of no where? I'm probably going to buy one on amazon or something for half the price.

Questions & Answers

Answers from the community

  • can I use a 60W on my macbook 17"?

    • Asked by Kitten B from Khobar
    • Jun 5, 2013

    Answer

Yes you can however, it is not recommended since your MacBook Pro would never charge fully as the in put power is too low (in some applications) where the battery would always need to supply the remaining 25W. For charging it is ok sometimes, but you should buy the 85W power adapter since your computer was made to operate with it. The 85W would also charge faster than 60W.

    Hope this helps
