Product Information

  • The 60 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro.

I have bought replacement Magsafe Power adaptors in the past because they don't always last. Sometimes 1-2 years but this recent one only lasted 3 months. At $80 per adaptor this is ridiculous. Read online, many consumers have had the same issues.

I want to love you. I really, really do. You're making it difficult though.

I couldn't blame you when my old, T-style power ad I want to love you. I really, really do. You're making it difficult though.

I couldn't blame you when my old, T-style power adapter broke after a couple years. I was even excited when I saw the sleek, new, redesigned L-style. However, that one broke too- but this time, it was after only about two months. I tried not to take it out on you, and figured that maybe I got the one bad one in the batch, or that maybe I had been too rough with it. But here I am, typing away, pausing occasionally to wiggle the cord in order to get it to work again- for a few seconds at least. Yes, thats right, my SECOND L-style magsafe has broken, also after only a couple months.

Finally, I'm realizing that it's not me, it's YOU. And you just don't seem to realize that. I called Apple support only to be told that there are "no known issues" with the L-style magsafe adapter. Oh really? Dearest apple, do you ever read the reviews your products receive? Obviously there is a known issue, and its that this product simply doesn't work if you use it for more than a month!

I've enjoyed your sleek design and better usability, but honestly, I think I'm leaving you. For a PC.

  • New and Better than the Old MagSafe

I own the white 13" 2008 Macbook, and to answer your questions (if any), yes, it works with it. As for the MagSafe itself, it feel I own the white 13" 2008 Macbook, and to answer your questions (if any), yes, it works with it. As for the MagSafe itself, it feels differently built (for the better), it doesn't nearly get as hot as the old MagSafe did (incredibly this one stays very cool, even on extended periods of time, although that could be because it's new.) Lastly, the actual connector is pretty innovative, feels much sturdier and less prone to fire/breaking/separation issues. It also wraps around a better/more effective contour. All in all, for $79 compared to $99, and the benefits i've named, it's a much better buy than the previous MagSafe (still overpriced, apple)

I'm on charger #3 -- As soon as I took it out of the package I taped both ends where the cord breaks. (choosing to save another $79 replacement over beauty....Steve would NOT approve!!)

It's been 4 months, and the charge light is flickering on and off. I removed the tape, and surprise! The cord is breaking again!!!!

Good thing I own APL stock....at least I'm getting a return there!

Apple is a brand that promotes brand exclusivity through the functions/features of its products and accessories. This is a smart business plan and lets users access cutting edge features that are user friendly. We pay a premium to access these features by buying Apple products. But in this instance, it's only a drawback for the MagSafe Power Adapter and it makes me feel like an **expletive** for buying any of this company's products. Apple has software updates to fix bugs that users report to make a better product for its software. Yet when Apple hears its consumers' reports on the inferior quality on its chargers, its solution is to ignore it and sell a cheap product for a huge mark up!! These adapters can't stand up to the everyday use that its require of them, most barely lasting a year. And when I try to heed GeniusBar's advice to prolong the longevity of the product, any advice given to me fails to prolong the lifespan. And at least once sometimes twice a year I am stuck with a perfectly good computer that I cannot use because one of the least technical aspects of the system doesn't function.

They last roughly six months of normal use. How do they break? The materials are so cheaply made that the cord cracks, frays, or otherwise just falls apart. And at $80.00 a pop, I really expect better.

Apple. Seriously. I usually love your products. I have (to this point) been a devoted fan of your computers. But I now have to consider whether or not I want to deal with your god-awful, horribly made power cords when deciding to how to spend my money. And frankly, I'm not sure its worth it.

I'm a lifelong mac user who is seriously considering switching to PC over a power cord. That's how bad these are.
