The iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S dock adaptors will allow the iPod Nano (6th Generation) to fit in, but it is slightly snug on the back. The clip on the back of the Nano presses slightly on the rear of the dock adaptor. Ive been using the iPhone 4 dock adaptor in a Bose Sound Dock along with the iPod Nano (6th Generation) for a few months and have not had any issues with it, it is snug but not so much as to have me worried that anything will break. …More

this is for devices you may already own or purchase that play, charge, etc. your ipod nano the device should be shaped the same way as this adapter and you fit it in and makes it easier to plug in the nano because the charger is on side of this model and is centered on most devices and classic ipods.
