Pricey, less powerful, but well made.

Let's be honest - $130 is a lot to pay for this battery, especially given Apple's tainted reputation with their notebook batteries. Still - the unibody MBP uses a 50 watt battery, whereas the previous gen had a 60 watt - and lab tests show the battery life in this model has declined. A single battery is not an option for power users.

This battery comes with an attatchable plastic cover. It's likely because the battery has two centimeter-wide jutting elements that could be easily broken off in a gear bag. I like this, though - because it will also stop dust from touching the metal contacts on the battery.

You pay to play when you go with an Apple notebook. It's expensive, and I don't expect to get more than two years of use from it - but it's still a solid piece of gear.

    Having to replace already....

I've had my Macbook Pro for a little more than a year and having to replace my battery already. I have done the drain thing every month like clock work. Now I'm having to payout $130 bucks for a new one. Overpriced and not worth it if I didn't HAVE to have it. More

    VERY Disappointing Battery Life

I thought I was getting a long life battery - don't they advertise 6-8 hrs? This one fully charged shows only 3:05 and in a real world test (six or seven programs open, no cd player use, playing iTunes and speakers only) I got only 2 hrs 30 min on the charge. More

Ive had this MacBook Pro for about a year and the battery went from lasting 7 hours to lasting 2 hours.

This is worse than my 4 year old MacBook.

If Apple makes the batteries, they should have actual battery companies make the batteries instead.

I like Apple, and they make GREAT products, don't get me wrong, but batteries, not so much...

Give me liberty or give me better battery life, please!

I just replaced my MacBook Pro battery. My system profiler indicated that my battery life was "poor" and I bought a new battery at the Apple store. Well, the life on this "new" battery is not much better. Rated as "good" in my system profiler, this replacement battery is not worth the $129 price tag. With a 100% charge and utilizing energy saver settings to increase battery life, I get 1 hour 27 minutes of time unplugged. I have drained, charged and tried again...just about the same. I have never owned anything but a Mac, please please please Apple give us a battery that has some staying power and really is worth the $129 we willing give you! More

No, you want apple P/N: MA348LL/A. I just got a new one of these yesterday at the Apple store and on the first complete cycle I'm finding a battery life of between 4 and 5 hours. That's running with WiFi and bluetooth on and the display dimmed to 25% (3 ~ 4 dots) and the keyboard illumination off.

The laptop being older shouldn't affect battery life significantly. Perhaps, if the laptop was used in a dusty environment it might need more energy for cooling but I can't imagine that happening in an normal environment unless the laptop was 10+ years old.

I can see a new battery from Apple performing better than the original if they've adapted some of the new cell technology that they are using in the later MBP's to the older battery but that's a detail that you couldn't confirm without directly comparing the older and newer batteries.

Not really - depends on what type of MBP and privacy screen you have. The best is the 3M screen but it doesn't fit well on the late 2008 and later MBPs (the ones with the black display border). The older ones with the aluminum display border had a large border and the display was inset from the lid. The 3M screen sat in the inset over the display and used stick tabs to keep the screen in place. With no inset it becomes very hard to remove and re-attach the screen, which is a bother if you ever have to show slides or movies to another person. I still haven't found a way to reuse my 3M screen which I happily used on my older MBP because of this. More
