Every Mac with a Mini DisplayPort allows you to connect an external display or projector using an adapter. You can use an external display as your main workspace or to extend your desktop, or you can work in mirrored mode with a projector so you can view what your audience sees.
Use the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter to connect your Mac to a standard analog monitor, projector, or LCD that uses a VGA connector or cable. Review the documentation or check with the manufacturer of your monitor to make sure you're choosing the right adapter.
- Mini DisplayPort
- Compatible with Mac computers with Mini DisplayPort and Thunderbolt ports

Doesn't work with Samsung TV

I bought a new MacBook last week and got the VGA adapter so I could use it with my TV as I did my old PowerBook G4 (via the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter). The new adapter worked fine when I connected it to an overhead projector, but it doesn't seem to send a readable signal to my Samsung LN40A650 television.
I tried booting in to Windows via Boot Camp and got the same result.
I guess I'll have to try the DVI adapter with a converter from DVI to HDMI to use this with my TV. A Mini DisplayPort to HDMI (or even regular DisplayPort, which can be directly converted without using audio) would be ideal, but there doesn't seem to be any sign of that. …

I have checked and it is not a TV problem, so certainly something hardware or driver related. Also $29.99 for a video dongle seems steep to me. …

Works Great, Buy It!
It literally took me 5 minutes to hook this thing up. I do not know why other customers have problems getting it to work. If I had It literally took me 5 minutes to hook this thing up. I do not know why other customers have problems getting it to work. If I had to guess it would be their display settings and not this device. I recommend this product to anyone who needs a second monitor. Just incase anyone is wondering, I used it on my new ASUS monitor. Shipping was great also, got it the very next day! …

The only complaint I have is the threads for the screws. They're too low to be reached by the screws on one of my monitors and it comes loose every now and then. …

Okay if the screws on the connecting cable are long enough
I tried this recently purchased adapter connecting from the mini Display Port on an Early 2009 Mac mini to a VGA cable connected t I tried this recently purchased adapter connecting from the mini Display Port on an Early 2009 Mac mini to a VGA cable connected to a 1600x900 VGA monitor made by HP. The same monitor also has a DVI input, and I could detect no difference in the display between DVI input (before) and the VGA input from the adapter (after). Both were clear and steady. I also connected a mini DVI to single link DVI adapter to the same Mac mini at the same time to get a dual display with the second display being an Apple 23 inch Cinema Display from 2002. (All of this was done with OS/X 10.9.4 Mavericks.) Again, clear and steady displays all around.
The only deficiency is that the female threads on the adapter are set too far back for the male threads on the VGA cable (also made by HP) to connect. I'm a bit surprised that Apple would let this slip through, so only four stars. …
