Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
Flaky performance
Written by AP from Phoenix
Dec 19, 2008
I had to plug and unplug my monitor several times before it worked and even now the monitor won't wake up from sleep! Sometimes when it does come up it flickers and has jaggies. I have to unplug the DVI and plug it back in to get it to stop. I never had any issues at all with this monitor on my old MBP. The size of this thing it HUGE, I can't believe they couldn't make it smaller. Literally about 3x4 inches! Feels like they released a poor product AND they did it LATE! …More

Flicker, sporadic issues...
Written by AI from BOSTON
Dec 22, 2008
Major issues...
First, when I plugged it into my brand new 2008 Macbook Pro I got a message saying that the USB device drew too much power! I did manage to make it work by plugging it into my monitor's USB hub, but wow...
Secondly, there is a slight flicker. You can see it clearly with certain kinds of backgrounds and fill patterns. It almost looks like the kind of noise you get with analog, except it's DVI. It's not a severe problem, but *any* flicker with DVI is ridiculous.
Finally, sometimes it just fails. The screen will go all weird, and you have to reset it. Again, it looks like an analog failure mode except it's not...
I'm going to wait a bit and then trying exchanging my adaptor at the Apple store. Maybe there are issues with the first-run units.
Apple really botched this one. Dongles are bad enough, but overpriced broken ones... come on guys...

Dual-Link DVI Adapter with Nov 2009 iMac and NEC MultiSync 3090WQXi
Written by TL from Alcoa
Dec 1, 2009
The Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter rates 5 stars for driving the NEC MultiSync LCD3090WQXi 30" monitor at 2560 by 1600 pixel resolution from my Late 2009 iMac. The problem is that I cannot calibrate the monitor color using NEC's SpectraView II software and the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter. It appears that the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter hardware and/or OS X software drivers do not provide for proper communication between the SpectraView calibration software and the display's internal processor. I have to remove the Dual-Link Adapter, install the Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (Single-Link), and calibrate the monitor at a 1600 by 1200 pixel resolution. I then have to reinstall the Dual-Link DVI Adapter to get the 2560 by 1600 pixel resolution. …More

Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
Works with my HP LP3065
Written by DC from Vail
Nov 27, 2009
I got this adapter (with firmware 1.02) for use with a late-2009 Mac mini and a 30" HP LP3065. It works far better than I was expecting after all of the bad reviews. I've had none of the sparkly pixel issues or any flashing or flickering.
When waking the Mac from sleep, about 5% of the time I was getting a crazy screen with odd vertical stripes which could be fixed by re-sleeping and re-waking. A workaround is to plug the adapter's USB cable into a powered hub rather than the Mac. It has worked perfectly, 100% since doing that.
I'd give it five stars if it worked better with the USB plugged straight into the Mac. …More0 of 1 people found this useful

Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
Not the quality I'm used to from Apple.
Written by SN from Laval
Nov 24, 2009
I'm a Mac fanboy and I promote Apple and it's quality products wherever I go and also write software for the Mac. Unfortunately I have to write a bad review for this one.
My setup is Macbook 5,1 Unibody with a 30" Dell 3008WFP Monitor.
mini-DVI to DualLink DVI cable with firmware 1.02.
At first I thought it was my screen that was defective so I got an exchange from dell, since then I've exchanged this cable for the third time and still the quality is not what I am used to from Apple.
The new cable works fine at maximum resolution for a couple of days but then I start seeing pixelation ( like snow on a old TV set without cable) in the bottom half of the screen soon followed by the whole screen becoming green and flashing back to normal colours at a rapid 60Hz. My guess is that this adaptor cable looses sync after a while.
If I disconnect the screen itself from the adaptor and reconnect it, nothing changes the adaptor still flickers the screen image, but if I disconnect the adaptor from the mac book and reconnect it, the adaptor is good to go for a couple of hours before it starts behaving badly again.
I've tested my screen on another computer and also tested the screen with a normal mini-DVI to DVI Cable, both situations worked flawlessly.
Basically said, this adaptor is not stable at all. …More10 of 11 people found this useful

could I connect my mac via mini diplay port too my my 42 inch hd plasma tv?

Totally possible. I am running my new 13" macbook pro into my Samsung 42" HDTV using the mini display port adapter, and a DVI to HDMI cable I bought an apple keyboard w/number pad, hooked up my Logitech MX Revolution wireless mouse.....whallah....42" of Mac. Works absolutely fantastic.
For those of you who want to do this with a macbook......start with the TV off, I open the Macbook press the power button, then immediately close it all the way. Next turn on the TV. and you should be set. I use my laptop as a "desktop" literally everyday. When I do need to go somewhere however, I pull a few wires and walk out the door. The nice thing is, that i am not wearing out the keyboard and the laptop screen when i am hooked up to the flatscreen tv. the life of my macbook LCD screen will be extended ten fold.
Hope this helped. …More- Answered by EM from Uniontown

How can I use the Mac Mini with two monitors?
- Asked by GR from MIssissauga

I do not own a mac mini but I have seen this done many times in retail stores that want to show off the versatility of such a small desktop. The mac mini has two video outputs: a mini-display port and a mini-DVI port. The mini-display port is the same one you find on the current generation macbook, macbook pros (as well as the Mac Pro) and the Mini-DVI is the same as the on the old black/white macbook. I do not know why apple decided to go with two different adapter types but it works just the same as you will need two separate adapters to use two displays anyway. From there, you just buy two "dongles" (display adapters) which hook up to your respective screen input jacks (VGA or DVI) and you're set! …More
