First, when I plugged it into my brand new 2008 Macbook Pro I got a message saying that the USB device drew too much power! I did manage to make it work by plugging it into my monitor's USB hub, but wow...

Secondly, there is a slight flicker. You can see it clearly with certain kinds of backgrounds and fill patterns. It almost looks like the kind of noise you get with analog, except it's DVI. It's not a severe problem, but *any* flicker with DVI is ridiculous.

Finally, sometimes it just fails. The screen will go all weird, and you have to reset it. Again, it looks like an analog failure mode except it's not...

I'm going to wait a bit and then trying exchanging my adaptor at the Apple store. Maybe there are issues with the first-run units.

Apple really botched this one. Dongles are bad enough, but overpriced broken ones... come on guys...

I had to plug and unplug my monitor several times before it worked and even now the monitor won't wake up from sleep! Sometimes wh I had to plug and unplug my monitor several times before it worked and even now the monitor won't wake up from sleep! Sometimes when it does come up it flickers and has jaggies. I have to unplug the DVI and plug it back in to get it to stop. I never had any issues at all with this monitor on my old MBP. The size of this thing it HUGE, I can't believe they couldn't make it smaller. Literally about 3x4 inches! Feels like they released a poor product AND they did it LATE!

  • Not for the Mac Mini if you want HDPC

Just got my Apple Mini DisplayPort To Dual-Link DVI Adapter so I can watch HD movies, guess what it will not display HDPC content. Just got my Apple Mini DisplayPort To Dual-Link DVI Adapter so I can watch HD movies, guess what it will not display HDPC content. If I just use a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter (lower resolution) work fine with the "HD" content. Don't know if the adapter is defective or if it is just the Apple Mini that has issues.

This active connector is excellent. I have had no issues running this on the MacBook Pro late 2013 - the top $3400 model.
I test This active connector is excellent. I have had no issues running this on the MacBook Pro late 2013 - the top $3400 model.
I tested it against an older Dell 3007 WFP ultrasharp 30 inch running 2560x1600 and a new ASUS PB278Q 27 inch at 2560x1440.
The adapter also works week with my Lenovo using the thunderbolt port.

I am curious if I can run this off a thunderbolt dock and also drive 2 monitors with 2 adapters - I'll get back to you.
I have noticed no flickering or issues running on both systems against both monitors. When I detach the display I pull out the USB port first.

    thank you

There is no flicker that I could notice. Was plug and play. As other has said, all the negative reviews are most likely due to the lack of a dual-link DVI cable. Most DVI cables sold are simply single-link. If you had this monitor operated on a PC previously, you already have in all likelihood a dual-link DVI cable as most PC graphic cards will need this too to get the native resolution.
