Overview

Now you'll never lose your work or miss the end of a DVD movie because your battery runs out at 35,000 feet. The MagSafe Airline Adapter will keep your MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air juiced throughout your flight. Sleek and light, it works with in-seat DC power ports available on many commercial airliners — both EmPower ports and 20mm ports (using the included adapter). Check with your airline regarding availability of in-seat power ports.

Because it's a MagSafe adapter, you'll continue to enjoy MagSafe convenience just as you do at home or work. The magnetic DC plug ensures a tight connection and enables a clean break from the power port if there is undue tension — preventing your MacBook from being pulled off your tray table if someone accidentally trips over the cord.

Important notes:

  • Using the MagSafe Airline Adapter provides power for your computer but does not charge the battery.
  • The MagSafe Airline Adapter is not compatible with automobile power ports.

No flaws. All Flaws are USER RELATED!!

    Written by AL from Chatsworth

Wow. It works great. It comes with adapters for both kinds of power ports found on air planes. Watched DVDs and played games the whole cross country flight.

For those who claim that there are flaws because they left the 20mm adapter behind, it is not Apple's fault you are an idiot and did not check to make sure you had all parts before leaving the plane. If you left your power cord in a hotel, is that Apple's fault?? NO! Then why is it their fault if you lost the 20mm adapter tip?

Also for those who complain it does not charge WHO CARES??? Why are you using your battery on the plane if you can plug it in? If you walk on the plane with a full charge and plug it in on the plane for the full time you are using it, then you leave with a fully charged battery.

People, it is really simple: it is not Apple's fault you leave parts behind and it is not Apple's fault you are illiterate or you did not bother to read the instructions.

    Adapter use

Written by GM from Lake Forest

    Feb 19, 2008

Great adapter! Users should be able to leave with all the parts they stated with, It's not Apples fault they forget part of it in the Power-Port. If it were welded together then I'm sure there would be like reviews griping about how it wasn't good for EmPower ports and they had to buy two. Proper techniques and responsibility go a long way to user satisfaction. If it were bullet proof, with every conceivable reinforcement, it would weigh a ton and cost 3 times the amount. It's great for what it is in the limitations of airlines power supply restrictions (they can't supply every seat with 500 watts of power). It's simple and takes up little room. Good job apple. More

    Works.

Does exactly as it says. It isn't Apple's fault if you don't check if you pulled the adapter out of the wall.

Don't leave plastic bit behind + Guilty, should have read the description

I was surprised the Airline Adapter doesn't charge. I guess it makes sense if the airlines can't provide the amperage. I am very happy I read the reviews as I didn't consider the possibility I'd leave the Lighter adapter behind... Now I will know to check. More

Powers computer, but it's not a recharger

    Written by RS from Athens

    Oct 22, 2009

The adapter works very well. Be aware, though, that it supplies power to the computer but does not recharge the computer's battery. If your battery is low when you start using this adapter, it will still be low when you finish.

The reason for this, apparently, is that powering the computer and charging the battery simultaneously would draw more power from the airplane's outlet than is allowed.

As other reviewers have noted, keep track of the detachable parts so you don't leave part of it behind, still in the power outlet.

    Simple, works well

    Written by DL from RENO

    Oct 21, 2009

This adapter is light, simple and works just as it should. Unfortunately, like some others, I didn't see the 20 mm adapter was still in the socket when I unplugged, and left one on the plane by mistake. It's my fault, but I wish Apple would sell replacement adapters. They could also add a simple plastic leash to keep the removable adapter from getting lost. More

Most airlines do NOT have power ports available in Business & Economy class seats. I have a MagSafe Adapter that I bought a year ago, and haven't even been able to use it anywhere, even on international flights. Airlines traveled in the last year have been United and its derivatives, Alaska and its derivatives, EthiopianAir, American, Jamaican. I can't speak regarding First class seating. In past flights I don't remember seeing them on KLM, Northwest, Tam, or Varig either, but I always fly business or economy class when I travel. More

It's designed for 15V DC that you find on airplanes. If you are the DIY type, you can make your own 15V DC automotive socket by using an automotive universal laptop supply to step up the car's 12V to 15V. More

  • Does it charge an iPhone connected through MacBook Pro?

Short answer YES. I've just run a test, and the previous answer of "no, it charges from any power left in the MacBook battery" is incorrect. I'm running a MacBook Pro 13", MacBook battery at 99%, and it has charged my iPhone from 25% to 100% without affecting the MacBook (still at 99% charge). I notice the iPhone charging is slower than usual though. More
