And its glossy finish makes graphics, photos, and video appear in rich colors and deep blacks.

The LED Cinema Display, like the latest-generation iPod, iPhone, and Mac computers, features mercury-free LED backlight technology and arsenic-free glass. The display is also free of BFRs and PVCs in all internal cables and components. Wonderful Display (if you can get over the limited compatibility)

Written by AJ from Wasaga Beach

It took several visits to the Apple store to get comfortable with the idea of making this purchase. To drop a cool grand on a display that can only be connected at this point (Feb 09) to the new Mac Books is a difficult notion to get ones head around. There are several other excellent options out there, the Dell 2408wfp was also on my list. The Dell has more connection options than you could possibly make use of, has very good image quality, an integrated card reader, several USB ports and so on. The Dell is also at least $300 cheaper. The Apple LED on the other had has only mini display port and 3 USB ports.

So why did I go with this display? Simply put the image quality is incredible. Some will suggest this display can't be considered colour accurate, and that it is not suitable for photographers etc. I'm sure this may apply to true professionals, but as a hobby photographer, the colour accuracy suits my needs extremely well. Despite rumors to the contrary, I did not have any trouble calibrating this display with my Spyder2 Pro.

The LED back light is wonderful and I love the glossy screen. I work in a North facing room, and I keep the lights low in the evening. I have not experienced any issues with glare, non, what so ever. The integrated USB, Magsafe, iSight camera and mini display port adapters make this the perfect accessory for the Mac Book. The integrated speakers are decent too, not great but acceptable. I suspect the new models of the i Mac, Mac Mini and Pro will also be able to use this display when they are released.

So in summary, yes this is a very expensive display compared to some of the competition, but if you have the cash I highly recommend this product. It really is awesome.

Apple, if your looking for an opinion, add a few more USB ports, drop the price some and release adapters for older Mac Books.

    Ambiguously Specialized Yet ...

    Written by IC from Washington

    Feb 13, 2009

The name of this product, Apple LED Cinema Display, offers no indication that it's specialized for laptops with a Mini DisplayPort. We purchased it with a Mac Pro, assuming that it was the newest rev of a product that's historically been compatible with standard DVI ports.

There is no adapter available to port Mini DiplayPort to DVI.
There is no Mini DisplayPort expansion card for the Mac Pro through this vendor. (I dunno bout the others.)

We will be sending it back, and wondering why the 23" is no longer available for our new Mac Pro, and other DVI-ported machines, and annoyed about the resulting downtime for our enduser.

Very nice but hard to see the value

I think this is an awesome display as far as styling and quality go but I see a few flaws.

    - Mac Mini-DP does not play sound (was hoping to convert to HDMI and watch on TV, cant)
    - Not high resolution (17" MBP runs same res as 24" cinema)
    - Almost $1000 after tax
    - Not much noticeable color improvement over Mac's current LED displays.
    - Speakers do not compensate for the price

This will probably get much improvement in the next refresh.

    Nice Job - 4 stars

    Written by WR from Flemington

Bought the new display for my mac pro. So yes, I had to install a new graphics card that has a mini display port. Went with the Radeon instead of the Nivida. If i had to do that over again, I would opt for the Nivida - only because the Radeon requires two power connections - that takes up the remaining power connections in the tower. So, out the window goes my idea of having two led displays working. Go with the Nivida if you plan on wanting two led displays - it only has one power connection. Ok, back to the display. I had the old 23" cinema display fired up next to it. Without question, the led is the better. The colors, text, graphics, etc. just pop off the screen. Looking at the older cinema display made me feel tired. It was a drag just looking at it. I really think my vision increased at least two or three optics just by looking at the new display. I have the display mounted to a flexscan display arm (one of the best arms out there). My only problem with the new display is that the connecting cords are all short with the exception of the power cord. Guess the engineers only had laptop use in mind when they developed this display. A bit short sighted of Apple - how did they expect that to work out with towers? I can see the reason for laptops as it would leave a bit of cord lying on the table top - but hey, all they had to do was add another 6-8 inches. They did make the power cord detachable - brilliant learnings from the previous displays. Other than that, the monitor is a vision of engineering beauty - typical of the high quality build that Apple does. The screen is brilliant - i could not ask for more - except the cord issue. So if you are thinking of getting this display - go for it. Keep in mind that you may have to elevate your tower. I should probably do that anyway. cheers :) More

    Reflective screen is impossible

    Written by PD from LONDON

...Unless you have full control of your working environment - ie really dark
no windows no lights - this monitor is great, if you work in a light studio forget it

If your working on black in a light/normal studio all you can see is your own reflection, how can apple produce this screen without a matte option? - They must know that everyone using the screens professionally would have this problem?

Unusable in a brightly lit office

I use this monitor in a fairly normal UK office (overhead fluorescent reflectors, big windows) and the glare and reflections make this monitor practically unusable.

At best the reflections are extremely distracting, at worst they give me a headache.
