The sleek, simple solution for fast wireless access

Easy wireless networking
Connect your DSL or cable modem to the AirPort Extreme Base Station, then quickly set it up with the easy-to-use AirPort Utility, which is available for both Mac OS X and Windows. Within minutes, you and up to 50 others can use your Macs or PCs to surf the web, stream video, share photos, and more — without wires.2

Up to 5x the performance, 2x the range
AirPort Extreme uses next-generation 802.11n wireless technology3 and features multiple antennas to deliver maximum speed and range throughout your home, classroom, or small office. You can enjoy up to five times the performance and up to twice the range of 802.11g wireless networks.1

Print without wires
Have several computers in your home or office but only one printer? No problem. Just connect a printer to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme Base Station and the printer instantly becomes available to all computers (Mac and Windows) on your wireless or wired network. (See system requirements.)

Share your hard drive
Now you can share an external USB hard drive over your wireless and wired network by simply connecting it to the USB port on your AirPort Extreme Base Station. Called AirPort Disk, it's perfect for sharing files, making backups, and more. You can even connect multiple drives and printers using a USB hub (sold separately). And it works with both Mac and Windows. (See system requirements.)

Strong security and access control
Rest easy — AirPort Extreme takes strong measures to prevent unauthorized intrusion into your wireless network. It offers a built-in firewall and supports industry-standard encryption technologies including WPA/WPA2 and 128-bit WEP. Yet it's still easy for authorized users to connect to it, thanks to its simple setup utility and powerful access controls.

Works with iPhone, Apple TV and more
AirPort Extreme works flawlessly with iPhone and Apple TV. It's compatible with 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless clients. And because it's dual-band, you can set it up to work on either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band, reducing the chance of radio interference. The AirPort Extreme Base Station is Wi-Fi Certified for 802.11n draft 2.0.
(1) Based on a comparison with Apple's 802.11g products. Comparison assumes AirPort Extreme network with 802.11n-enabled computer. Speed and range will be less if an 802.11a/b/g product joins the network. Accessing the wireless network requires an AirPort or AirPort Extreme enabled computer or other Wi-Fi Certified 802.11a/b/g-enabled computer. Actual performance will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors. Range will vary with site conditions.
(2) Wireless Internet access requires a wireless-enabled computer, a base station or other access point, and Internet access (fees may apply). Some ISPs are not currently compatible with AirPort Extreme.
(3) The AirPort Extreme Base Station is based on an IEEE 802.11n draft specification and is compatible with IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, and IEEE 802.11g.

Best wireless router I have ever owned.

Recently I bought a Draytek 2910G. I loved the unit, and it worked flawlessly with my macbook pro but I ran into the (evidently i…Read morenfamous) chipset compatibility issues between the Atheros in the router and the Broadcom in my girlfriend's Macbook.
Since I picked up the Airport Extreme a couple of weeks ago, our notebooks have been continuously connected with no router restarting or dns resolution errors.
I've never experienced this level of consistency with any home-grade wireless router and the feature set is fairly complete. I would like to see VPN for the price, but the print server feature was a selling point.(10 of 10 people found this review useful)

The range is better than I expected, and I never even think about the network anymore. The green light came on that first day and it's been on ever since.

Great Potential, but Falls Short with Actual Performance

I didn't need a Time Capsule because I already have a hard drive which contains my Time Machine backup for the past 10 months, now I can't use the new $200 base station to continue my backup wirelessly.

AirPort Extreme Base Station with Gigabit Ethernet
Perfection with one flaw
Written by EG from Santa Clara

Pluses: Can use the 802.1a frequencies (much faster when there are competing wireless networks on all sides of you on the 802.1b f…Read morerequencies). FAST -- I get the full 300mbit/sec throughput from the wireless. It's all gigabit Ethernet now. Right now it's the only thing in its class that will use the 802.1a frequencies and go 300mbit/sec with a Mac. It does everything a home router should do. Minuses: The "Storage Link" is excruciatingly slow (as in, 1/4th the speed of writing to the same USB disk drive attached to my server over the same network). As is, it is the fastest 802.11n base station for your recent-vintage Mac. Fix the "Storage Link" (maybe a firmware update?), and it would be perfection.

It worked fine for another week. Then I had to try to do another reset when it went out. Luckily, the Airdisk didn't trash my drives. Anyways, now it doesn't work at all. It's a great idea but unlike Apple's usual dependability this one falls flat.(2764 of 4332 people found this review useful)
