I would just like to say....
that the battery on my brand new macbook also died within 5 months of me buying the laptop. Now, I calibrated the thing just like that the battery on my brand new macbook also died within 5 months of me buying the laptop. Now, I calibrated the thing just like the manual said, so no excuse there. And like everyone else, my battery died with no warning and no excuse. I think that when a company has this many people have the same complaint about a product, they should replace it or do a recall. And even if they don't read the reviews here, they know about it, as I know others have complained. I love my macbook, but it's battery is junk. Please, Apple, we would all appreciate some kind of response to this problem. …

It is identical to the battery that comes with the black Macbook and seems to work just as well. Although not charged right out of the box, it takes a few hours of patience. By alternating the batteries, they last longer as well. Another Apple critique claimed that the batteries should be switched around every week. Seems to last around 2 to 3 hours. Maybe more depending upon your energy savings. I recommend this as quite essential. …

2 Batteries From Apple, 1 From Third Party: Expensive=Better, Unfortunately
Bought our black MacBook in 2006. It gets heavy daily use, and has been upgraded with an SSD and more memory. The original battery Bought our black MacBook in 2006. It gets heavy daily use, and has been upgraded with an SSD and more memory. The original battery lasted for several years, and recorded around 1,000 charge cycles before getting so bad (<2hrs) that I replaced it with a new Apple battery at the ruinous $130 price. The replacement battery lasted several more years, and well over 1,000 cycles, before needing replacement again - so far, so good. You can't complain about that kind of life, even if you don't like the price.
But that time, I thought, "Whew, I won't pay that big price again!" I found a 3rd party battery from OWC that promised better life than stock and cost a lot less - I think $80 or $90. So I smiled and got that. That was less than two years ago, only a few hundred charge cycles, and already the life is deteriorating. It's down to about 2 1/2hrs. At this rate, it will need to be replaced within the next 6 months or so. Was the cheaper price worth it? I'm thinking not. When I replace, it will be with an Apple battery in spite of the price.
Irritating - I know that by comparison, I'm "getting what I'm paying for". But does it have to cost so much? Anyway, be advised - in spite of the steep price, the stock Apple battery may be the best solution for your Macbook. …

Original Battery Finally Has a Replace Message
I think I got this wonderful MacBook computer in 2008, and I have been using this on the original battery ever since then. Only no I think I got this wonderful MacBook computer in 2008, and I have been using this on the original battery ever since then. Only now do I have a replace battery message. I have mainly used my battery connected to the charger and quite a number of peripherals like a desktop computer except it is portable. I do hope this computer needs the battery I see available. Fortunately mine was the computer right before the aluminum ones when you could still get a MacBook with the oldstyle FireWire (new ones only need a cable). When I think about it, since it is 2013, I have gotten almost 5 years out of this original battery which is good service. Hope I can stop by the Apple Store and buy a new one tomorrow. $129.00 is a lot, but I guess after 5 years that is good service. I have not taken this on the road with me any so far and have not really tried using it on battery only. Anyway, this has been an ideal computer for me. I did upgrade to System X.6.8 and find this system ideal. I sure hope the other components of this computer will keep on working to make it worth buying a new battery. I really would have bought a 2nd battery long ago if I had traveled with it. I hate to change to a later model because certain programs I use probably won't work with System X.8 like the invoicing program. I hope newer MacBooks are there that have user replaceable batteries like this one, though this will be a first for me. I simply can't complain and have to give this 5 stars because of the battery lasting so long. …

I recently ordered a replacement MacBook Rechargeable Battery so can hopefully help here.
The battery I ordered was a "MacBook Battery (White)" Model A1185 and the Apple product code was MA561G/A. So it does indeed seem to match the product you are asking about.
