Because it is a lithium polymer battery it needs to be charged fully then drain fully and charged fully etc... to keep it healthy. I get about 4 - 4.5 hours out of this if I i drain it and then charge it (like above). when i first used it like normal i only got about two hours until i realized that you had to do this. This is a great product and if you use it in this way you can even achieve as much as five hours! This is a great product and i would highly recommend it.

note: if you use this technique from the start, the battery heath can increase from what it was when you first get it.

Here is the truth: the MacBook battery is big, heavy, and will only get you an additional 2-2.5 hours of battery life under normal usage. Yeah, you need one. No, it is not great.

It was very, very nice to be able to keep my computer for almost the whole trip. I have read a lot of people saying that it last for 3 or 4 hours, but here is a tip, turn down the brightness level on the screen to as low as it can go (I can get by on a notch of 1 when there is a light on in the room). When on the lowest level, the battery lasts for around 5 hours, sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more. I would recommend this for someone who uses their MacBook for long periods of time.

I have about 77% life remaining and 600 cycles, pretty impressive I think. I do agree that you get the most out of your battery if you charge it and let it drain till below 5% before charging it up again and repeat.

Also do charge it and drain to 0% the first time you use it.

    No complaints here.

Tha Bought my 13" Macbook in 2009 - still have the same battery, but now it only lasts about one hour (on low screen brightness). That seems pretty reasonable - 5 years of use and it now needs replacing at $129. But I WISH the instructions had been more clear from the start about how to use the battery so that its optimal health is maintained. For some reason, my computer no longer warns me when the battery is low - it just shuts off without warning. Let's see what a new second battery does for it.

The condition does say "replace soon", but it went through 4 yrs of college with me- aka treated like garbage. Battery now only last about 1.5 hr compared to it's original 6ish but after 5 years, I'll take it. Highly recommend.

I have had this unit for over 4 years and it has been my principal home computer.

I recently ordered a replacement MacBook Rechargeable Battery so can hopefully help here.

The battery I ordered was a "MacBook Battery (White)" Model A1185 and the Apple product code was MA561G/A. So it does indeed seem to match the product you are asking about.

    Regards,
    Dominic.

The full capacity of the (original) battery is currently around 4788mA after 975 charging cycles, and I get around 4.5 hours of browsing and general use (I'd get around 5 hours when it was new). Programming I get 2-3 hours depending on what I'm doing.

The key to keeping these batteries working for a long time is to fully discharge and recharge them often and not partially discharge and then leave them plugged in on the mains all the time.
