Battery gets very, very hot, in my opinion, but great battery life so far
Written by LS

I think the battery life is pretty good on the MacBook Pro. I was on a three-hour flight the other day and my Mac battery died right before landing. Other PC users around me had to shut down because of battery issues 45 minutes before. After the flight, I actually had one business person ask me what kind of computer I have and questions about the battery b/c he couldn't believe it lasted so long.
However, in my opinion, this battery gets extremely hot and more so than any PC that I have worked on or the PowerBook I had until I upgraded to this one. So, be sure to wear pants or use a pillow if you're going to use your laptop in your lap!
The design is great for the MacBook Pro and so is the battery, I just wish they would've used a larger fan in the MacBook so it would keep this thing cool. I think it's more a flaw of the computer design and less of the battery, though. …More1235 of 1831 people found this useful

poor performance
Written by PW from Mississauga

I've had my mac book pro for 4 years now & I'm about to be on my 4th. battery! After the 3rd. they should be a nominal fee, not $160+Can. every time. The one that's dying lasts a whopping 15-20min. tops on a full charge. Apple/sony have really dropped the ball on this one. I consider it a major drawback.

Poor battery life - Reset the PMU
Written by TD from Aurora
Dec 16, 2009
My MacBook Pro battery never seemed to provide very good battery life. It also ran very hot. Within one year it barely held a charge. I bought a new battery recently and when I installed it it barely lasted 1.5 hours! Frustrated, I called technical support where they recommended that I reset the "PMU". Following directions, I reset it and "voila" over 4 hours of battery life! I then tried the old "dead" battery and it ran for over an hour! My MacBook Pro always ran very hot and now I know why. Must have been churning away on the battery. Could this be your problem?
Here's how to reset the PMU. (BTW.. there are some repercussions from the reset. Search the site for details) 1. Shut down your computer -2. remove the battery - 3. unplug the AC - 4. then hold the "power on" button down for 10 seconds. That's it! Then reassemble and reboot. You should be good to go. …More4 of 4 people found this useful

Good Product
Written by JC from SPRINGFIELD

I am surprised by all of the negative reviews on this product. After 2yrs & 528 cycles my battery still has 75% or better. I am on my computer several hours a day for school and personal use and have never had an issue. As for the price, this site is not the only place you can buy this battery but even so the price is comparable. …More

Does it harm the battery or reduce battery life, to use the AC adaptor for extended periods while the battery is fully charged?
- Asked by DM from Millville
- Oct 27, 2009
Best Answer
As I recently found out, yes indeed it does. I have been leaving my MBP power adapter/charger cord connected for extended periods of time, and just last week when going through the new system pref's of Snow Leopard I say a triangle with an ! inside it in the energy saver/ battery pref's. I asked a friend that works at the local Apple store about it, and his words were "Dude, you killed your battery". I now get at most an hour before the battery low warning pops up.
And all along I have been doing the battery cycling on a monthly basis.

is this the A1175?
- Asked by TH from Medstead
- Oct 7, 2009
Best Answer
The 1175 fit the 15", so select the 15" size for the newer MA458LL/A and you'll be good. And be sure to download the battery firmware updates for your particular laptop model, if you haven't. You can do that before you install the new battery. I'd add the links to the pages here on apple's support sites that discusses those updates but apple won't let me do that within these answers. Just google "EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs" and you'll find them. …More

What is the warranty on a replacement battery?
- Asked by CK from Tampa
- Oct 9, 2009
Best Answer
Apple’s standard for battery deterioration is that the battery should hold at least 80% of it’s maximum charge capacity after 300 cycles. Under normal circumstances, this means roughly 2 years. Granted, everyone has a different definition of normal usage but Apple usually won’t deal with a battery if it’s been through over 300 cycles or three years or age. …More
