Apple DVI to Video Adapter
Little explanation needed for people using this.
Written by MB from Brighton

This may be rubbish but may explain peoples issues.
Apple ships computers with a DVI-I interface. This means it can output analogue or a digital signal hence why it works with adapters. Some PC's come with this interface but some come with DVI-D which only outputs a digital signal hence why adapter will not work.....also not sure if pc's video drivers are written to be aware of the DVI-I interface it is probable it only sees it as a DVI-D.
Also all those people moaning about the quality tough luck. Analogue video though composite/s-video does not support above 1024 x 768 very well it was not designed for these sort of resolutions. When you are used to RGB/VGA signals the quality is pretty good,(composite is poor, svideo is better, then RGB analogue then RGB/Digital is the quality level) If you have a HDTV then get a DVI to HDMI cable then you get a very crisp high resolution RGB signal.
Hope this helps to explain this.

Apple DVI to Video Adapter
Awesome
Written by SE from Orange

This product is awesome. Setup is a whole 2 seconds, if it isn't than your doing something wrong! Remember this is DVI to Composite and S-Video. It's meant for Movies and Games not turning your TV into a computer screen. DVI requires way higher resolution which standard TV's don't offer. If you are using a flat screen TV with DVI or VGA in that it would look great. But if yours only takes in S-Video or Composite than you will be disappointed. But that isn't because of the cable, it's because of the TV. Unless you are planning on doing work a 640 x 480 screen resolution than you are going to have a tough time. Original TV sets weren't meant to be computer monitors. If you want to test this for yourself just borrow a projection unit. Connect you computer via DVI or VGA to the DVI or VGA adapter (may require DVI to VGA adapter pending on projection unit) on the projection unit. Start up the two and make sure you are using the correct screen resolution for the projector. You'll see that the quality is fantastic. However, if you take that same computer and use a DVI to Component/S-Video adapter and hook it up to the projection units Component or S-Video adapter you'll notice the screen is no longer crisp. Games and Videos still look good but you've lost alot of resolution. So if you think this is a bad product because it looks poor than you don't get what you are talking about. Also, if you think that your Mac can't do it right...you would also be wrong. They've been able to do this for a really, really long time and they do it very well. I would know as I use both and you can set this up on a mac in less than half the time it takes you in any version of Windows so far. (Haven't tried it in Vista yet. Hopefully it will be better, easier and quicker.) …More

Apple DVI to Video Adapter
The adapter itself is fine
Written by JB from Austin
Sep 27, 2005
Complaints that S-Video quality is poor compared to DVI are reasonable, but it's unfair to blame the adapter. The adapter itself is fine. This dongle simply carries the S-Video and Composite signals produced inside your computer out to a plug your TV can use. No signal conversion takes place here; the S-Video and Composite signals are already among the many pins of a DVI connector, and this adapter simply adds an appropriate plug.
If you want S-video or composite video from your Mini or G5 tower, this adapter is a safe bet. Don't be surprised to find that even S-video is nothing like VGA or DVI in terms of quality, but that's a limitation of the signal format, not the adapter. If you've used the S-Video or Composite output of a Powerbook, you know what to expect, and you should be well satisfied -- the quality is similar. …More1229 of 1892 people found this useful

Apple DVI to Video Adapter
This plug only works if you have a DVI-I output (older macs, not newer ones
Written by DS from Englewood Cliffs
Dec 11, 2009
This plug will only work with Mac's with a DVI-I output. This means if you have a newer mac mini, for example, that only has mini display and mini dvi outputs, it will not work. The mini-display to DVI converter is DVI-D - which won't work with this plug (DVI-D is missing the analog pins).
I do wish Apple would make this explicit on the web site. …More26 of 29 people found this useful

Great Product & it works
Written by MO from BERKELEY
Dec 9, 2009
Some of you complaining that it does work or fit may have bought the wrong one. I did that too at the store. This works great too.
Those of you saying it broke and had to buy too many over the years, you gotta ask yourself this question: "Did I take care of my gear?"
The product will last if you take care of it.
Get a small bag or box, put in some bubble wrap or tissue paper, tape the covers on so they don't fall off. It's not too hard to take care of your equipment.
Be a Pro and not a big baby complaining about things breaking because of your immature and unprofessional behavior.
This product works just fine! Don't read those other "complainers" reviews, they're not pros just big babies! …More3 of 7 people found this useful

What cable connects a MacBook pro to a projector for presentations

Best Answer
The answer will depend upon the version of your MacBook Pro and the available input on the projector.
1. Determine which video out connector your MacBook Pro has. DVI was common until the recent change to the Mini-Displayport.
2. Determine the input options on the projector. Most every projector does VGA. Some also do DVI.
3. Purchase the correct adapter from the Apple Store for your Mac and your projector. For example on my MacBook Pro and with my projector that supports DVI, I bought a DVI to DVI extension cable. For my MacBook Air and the projectors I encounter while on the road, I bought the Mini DVI to VGA adapter for the MacBook air and a VGA to VGA extension cable to connect to most any projector. …More- Answered by DC from Newmarket
