Apple World Travel Adapter Kit
Explanation: Adapter vs Converter
Written by DA from New York
Jan 22, 2006
Some Apple power adapters are rated 110-240V which means that they will work around the world. The only limitation is the physical connection on the adapter. This is why Apple offers the World Travel Adapter Kit. With this kit it is possible to physically plug into virtually any wall socket in the world.
There are several people reporting here that they have fried their Apple device when "using" the WTA kit. This probably means that they had a power adapter rated for 110v ONLY and plugged it into a 240v source/socket. I bet they also fried the power adapter.
So, be careful. Read the spec on the side of your power adapter. If it says 110-240v, and you have been successfully using the adapter in the U.S., then you shoud be able to use the adapter elsewhere around the world. Use the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit to make the plug physically compatible with the country you are visiting.
Hope this helps.
P.S. Only wish Apple would sell the adapter plugs individually. Don't need half of what's in the kit. …More4418 of 5428 people found this useful

***Warning***

While in Argentia this year, I fried the logic board in my G4 laptop because I didn't know the difference between 'Adapter' and 'Converter'. This Apple product is an adapter, and only offers the specific prong configuration that allows you to insert into a foreign electrical outlet. However it will not convert the voltage, which why you will need to to get yourself a convertor as well. …More

They're ripping you off, Again
Written by JZ from Springfield

Though this product is nice, its completely unesscary unless you want to waste your money on a name brand. You can get an international adaptor in any electronic store for the same price that works with your cell phone, iPods, hair dryer, and anything else tht needs electricity. Please, they're just trying to rip you off again when the original charger should have come with the iPod any way! …More

Flat Parallel Blades WITHOUT Holes - China. D. Flat Parallel Blades WITH Holes - North America, Japan. E. Round Thick Pins - Korea. F. Round Thin Pins - Continental Europe. Hope this helps to clarify all the confusion out there. …More

Apple World Travel Adapter Kit
not good for all countries
Written by KF from Tijeras

I've been traveling in Eastern Europe and have only been able to use one of the adapters once. Granted most of my time hasn't been spent in typical tourist countries but the folks at the Apple store mislead me into thinking that the European adapter would work all over Europe, however, this is not true as most counties I've been to have larger outlets than the Apple European adapter. …More

Apple World Travel Adapter Kit
Convenient but totally lacking labels
Written by CG from San Francisco

I'm happy with these adapters, they were expensive but I charge my phone, ipod, etc off of my laptop, and being able to just say, "oh, I'm going to Australia" and go to the file cabinet to get the right plug has been useful to me. They don't have a type D or F plug, which you should note if you need those. However, they have one horribly irritating flaw: the plugs themselves don't have any labels at all on them. You have to write the plug type in sharpie on them. Maybe I'm just not cosmopolitan enough, but I can't tell a type E (fat 2 pins) from a type C (thin 2 pins) without staring at both of them and at a website picture, and that's the last thing I want to do the night before I travel. …More
