Apple DVI to VGA Display Adapter
Compatible with MacBook Pros
Written by RM
Nov 18, 2007
The Apple description of the product in their "Overview" section does not mention that this works with MacBook Pros too. This may be because this adaptor is bundled with the MacBook Pros. But for someone needing to buy a new one, the compatibility with MacBook Pro should be explicitly mentioned as it is mentioned for other models.
I have used it for months now on my MacBook Pro and works very fine.
Also there is a review "Great for Intel iMac and Sony 15" VGA" by LR dated January 23, 2007. I understand that iMac Intels come with Mini-DVI ports only and hence this makes this adaptor incompatible with Intel iMacs.
Correct me if I have erred in my observations. …More631 of 845 people found this useful

I had to buy another adapter for this (male/male). Apple should offer a choice of male or female VGA.

DVI to VGA adapter failures
Written by JK from Naples
Sep 23, 2005
Our Naples MUG club uses a PowerBook to connect to a VGA projector for our (average) 70 meetings a year used for education.
Two DVI to VGA adapters have already failed and I am ordering our 3rd unit (18 months time frame).
Apple really needs to work on its supplier to get better quality on its manufacturing process. …More445 of 716 people found this useful

Apple DVI to VGA Display Adapter
Terrible Necessity
Written by JP from Craig
Sep 9, 2009
I hate this adapter. It doesn't last very long at all. The color and images go out within 4-5 months of use. This is my 5th and 6th one I'm buying. Yes I said 5TH AND 6TH. I'm buying two because I know one will go out soon. For my job I do use it daily and have constantly had troubles with it, but it's the only adapter I need which makes me think of it as a "Terrible Necessity." …More

Apple DVI to VGA Display Adapter
Excellent Adapter
Written by SW from Temecula

I have maintained 15 MacBook Pros and their original DVI/VGA adapters for the last 4 years. I have not experienced one adaptor failure. These laptops are in constant use with a variety of projectors and I have never experienced any problems with the cable! My only suggestion to anyone that feels they need to purchase a new one, is to make sure that you have properly insert the adapter into the computer's DVI plug. If it isn't fully inserted, you can get a bad connection and may see a lavender screen. That doesn't mean the adapter is broken - it just isn't in completely! …More

Apple DVI to VGA Display Adapter
Poor Quality
Written by AT from Canton

I have to agree with the other reviewers regarding this cable. The cable doesn't last very long and looses its connectivity after a period of time. I got mine to last about 3 years. If you are still using this model and do a lot of presentations, I would keep a second one in hand as a backup. Its very embarrassing to spend a hefty price on this laptop and then get no results.

What cable connects a MacBook pro to a projector for presentations

Best Answer
The answer will depend upon the version of your MacBook Pro and the available input on the projector.
1. Determine which video out connector your MacBook Pro has. DVI was common until the recent change to the Mini-Displayport.
2. Determine the input options on the projector. Most every projector does VGA. Some also do DVI.
3. Purchase the correct adapter from the Apple Store for your Mac and your projector. For example on my MacBook Pro and with my projector that supports DVI, I bought a DVI to DVI extension cable. For my MacBook Air and the projectors I encounter while on the road, I bought the Mini DVI to VGA adapter for the MacBook air and a VGA to VGA extension cable to connect to most any projector. …More- Answered by DC from Newmarket
