Instead, it plugs into a USB port. Luckily, I have the iMac on a dock that has front-facing ports. However, I find I have to jiggle it around before it begins to charge the iPhone and communicate with the iMac. I think it's mainly intended for charging with an AC/USB converter, where you can plug it into a wall outlet in the hotel. Ironically, I paid $40 for this when I could have gotten what I really wanted for $30. C'est la vie.
